WI City Set to Honor Victims

Waukesha is preparing to mark the two-year anniversary of the Christmas Parade attack.  The city will dedicate a memorial to the victims of the deadly 2021 incident next Tuesday.  The memorial on Main Street aims to represent the lives impacted by the tragedy.  Six people were killed and dozens more hurt when a man drove his SUV through the annual parade.  That man is now serving life behind bars.

WI Hunter Shoots Cougar

State officials say a hunter won’t be charged for shooting a mountain lion in western Wisconsin.  The mountain lion is a protected species in the state.  State Natural Resources officials say the bow hunter felt threatened by the mountain lion, also known as a cougar.  They say the hunter reported the shooting on Saturday over the state’s violation hotline.  The hunter was not injured.  The Buffalo County District Attorney’s office says it investigated the incident and decided not to press

Port-a-Potty Plan Soiled

Police in Glendale are thanking some local golfers for helping them capture a police chase suspect.  It happened Wednesday when an SUV allegedly stolen out of Minnesota crashed along the I-43 guardrail.  Four people got out of the vehicle and two of them ran onto the nearby Lincoln Park Golf Course.  One of the suspects tried to hide in a nearby port-a-potty on the course.  That’s when two golfers took matters into their own hands and tipped the port-a-potty over,

Deer Crashes Through Windshield

A Wisconsin man is recovering after a deer’s smashed through his windshield.  Robert Fleuchaus says he was driving on I-43 last week doing about 75 miles an hour when the deer ran right into traffic.  The deer’s body split in half after being hit by Fleuchaus and a box truck driving beside him.  Fleuchaus says all the windows shattered and the deer’s head just landed on the seat next to him.  He says he’s glad no one was in the

Water Bills See Rising Rates

Eau Claire residents can expect to see an increase in their monthly water bills, beginning next year.  The city council this week approved an eight percent increase in water usage bills.  City officials blamed the increase on rising costs for electricity, chemicals and transportation in providing water for residents.  The city is also building a 20-million dollar treatment facility for PFAs — the so-called forever chemicals that are hazardous to people’s health.  The city is looking for grants that can

Dunn County Shelter Opens

The first general homeless shelter in Dunn County has opened for business — and shelter officials say they’re working through a waitlist for people who want to stay at the shelter.  The Cairn House in Menomonie has taken several years to finance and build at a total cost one-and-a-half million dollars.  People can stay at the shelter for up to eight weeks or longer, depending on circumstances.  The shelter has three case managers on staff to help residents find more

County Shuts Down Warning System

Apprentices Hit Record Numbers

A record number of apprentices have enrolled in Wisconsin’s Apprenticeship Program. Governor Tony Evers says in a press release there are more than 16-thousand apprentices, breaking last year’s record as the most the program has seen in its 112 years. Wisconsin Apprenticeship pairs on the job training with classroom instruction so apprentices can earn as they still learn. Applications For Internet Upgrades are Loading

More than 120 applications were received for rural broadband infrastructure funding in Wisconsin. The applications for the Broadband Infrastructure Grant Program requested a total of more than 221-million dollars, but only about 42-million will be awarded. The ratio of requested funding to available funding is the highest since the first round of applications in 2014. Grant money will go toward projects aiming to provide high-quality internet in locations without adequate or affordable service options.
