There’s a new option to get away from the Chippewa Valley, starting today. Sun Country is beginning its non-stop flights to Fort Myers. The flights will run until the end of April. Sun Country has been offering two flights per-week to Las Vegas, those will end on December 11th.

New Name, New Look, New Plan

The new name for the Universities of Wisconsin is just the beginning for the UW’s rebranding.  University President Jay Rothman told a Madison TV station that the university needs to ‘reposition’ itself.  Rothman didn’t get into specifics, but said the school will become ‘consumer-focused.’  That, Rothman says, will mean millions of dollars in new investments.  Rothman does say that the re-brand will take time and that process is underway.

Gov. Evers Visits UWEC, Talks DEI

Wisconsin’s governor took the spat over DEI money at the University of Wisconsin to the campus in Eau Claire yesterday.  Governor Evers toured the medical lab at the university, and once again pressed Republican lawmakers to release the 32-million dollars being held at the Capitol until the university changes its policy on diversity, equity, and inclusion.  The governor said the University of Wisconsin will not get better with less money.  He says the school needs that money to continue to

MKE Car Theft Cases in Overdrive

Stealing a car in Milwaukee almost always goes unpunished.  The latest look at Milwaukee’s crime numbers show that just over 200 of the city’s nearly five-thousand stolen car cases have ended with an arrest this year.  That’s a four-percent clearance rate.  Last year Milwaukee Police cleared just six-percent of stolen car cases, it was two-and-a-half percent the year before that.

WI School Choice is Big Business

Wisconsin’s biggest business group is weighing in on the court fight over school choice in the state.  Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce this week filed a brief with the Wisconsin Supreme Court, asking the court to reject the lawsuit that seeks to end school choice and school vouchers in Wisconsin.  WMC says thousands of families across the state will be ‘devastated’ if school choice comes to an end.  The group is also arguing that any challenge should first go to a

WI Sees Flu, Viruses on Rise

The flu, COVID, and RSV virus are on the rise in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services most recent Respiratory Virus Surveillance Report says the state is seeing an increase in hospitalizations for children with RSV. The department says influenza and COVID vaccines are in good supply, but national RSV treatments for infants are still effecting Wisconsin.

Underage Sales on the Rise

Underage tobacco and vape sales are rising in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Health Service says underage sales of tobacco products increased from eleven-point-nine percent in 2022 to 13-point-six percent this year. On average, underage sales increased by 140-percent since 2019. The DHS says tobacco use causes almost eight-thousand deaths, 3-billion in health care expenses, and more than five-point-six billion in lost economic productivity every year.

Dunn Co. Announces Dip in Property Taxes
