There were a record number of patients seen in 2023 in the UW Health system. During the last fiscal year, UW Health says it saw almost 809-thousand patients and performed more than three-point-seven million outpatient procedures. There were also almost 222-thousand emergency room visits, and 83-point-five thousand surgeries at UW Health. The system says its first successful pediatric heart transplant from August was a notable milestone from 2023.

Those who find black bear dens in Wisconsin are being encouraged to report them. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says they’re looking for GPS coordinates and photos of the dens from a safe distance. They say all dens are worth reporting, but especially those in Northern Wisconsin counties. This will be the third year in a row the Wisconsin DNR is counting and studying black bear populations in the state.

Applications are open for three vacancies in Wisconsin county court systems. Governor Tony Evers says he is looking for a new Rusk County District Attorney to finish out a term that will end January 2025. Applications are due on January 31. Applications for a Green County Circuit Court vacancy are due on February 9, and Marinette County Circuit Court applications are due on February 23, and applications. A snowstorm wasn’t the only thing to hit Wisconsin last night. A $151,000 Badger 5 jackpot was split between winning tickets sold at County Line Beverage on 4141 County T in Brodhead and Meijer Gas Station on 7735 Green Bay Rd. in Kenosha for the January 8 drawing. Eau Claire is now under a Winter Weather Advisory. The National Weather Service is expecting two to three inches of snow today, along with slick roads and wintry conditions. The long wait for the first decision in the murder of 10-year-old Lily Peters is due this month. The judge in the case has said he will decide by the end of January if the teenage suspect in Peters’ murder will be tried in adult court.
