WI Elections Chief Stays

There will not be a new Elections Chief for the upcoming 2024 election.  A judge ruled on Friday that Republican lawmakers do not have the authority to remove or replace Meagan Wolfe from her position.  Wolfe oversees a commission that has been under fire for three years because of false election fraud claims put forward by former President Donald Trump.

Maps Lead to State Supreme Court

The state Supreme Court will now decide between seven legislative maps before the 2024 election.  The court received final submissions from both sides of the aisle and third party institutions on Friday.  In 2022, the nation’s highest court threw out election maps drawn by Democratic Governor Tony Evers. The court has until March 15th to enact new districts ahead of the legislative primary.

K-9 Officers Join Madison PD

Two new K-9s have joined the Madison Police Department. Zeke and Freddie were given their badges after their swearing in ceremony. Madison PD says the dogs will help with detecting narcotics, searching buildings, and tracking suspects. Zeke and Freddie are both Belgian Malinois breed, and were born in Croatia before training in the United States. Search Continues for Missing La Crosse Man

Authorities are continuing to ask for help in the search for a missing La Crosse man. 31 year old  Octavio Morales was last seen in downtown La Crosse on 12/22/23 and has not had contact with his family or friends since. Family is concerned for his safety and desire a welfare check. EC Man Arrested in Stabbing Incident

Just before 1:00am on Friday, January 12th, 2024, Officers from the Eau Claire Police Department responded to a disturbance where a person had been stabbed at a residence located in the 2500 block of Boardwalk Circle. Baldwin Announces $1.5 Million for Wildfire Research

Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) announced that the University of Wisconsin, in partnership with the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies, will receive $1.49 million to conduct research into how to better forecast, detect, and respond to wildfires through the Baldwin-backed Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Sheriff Hakes Testifies at Capitol

Chippewa Sheriff Travis Hakes was recently in the capitol working with Senator Jesse James. Below is information from the Sheriff about that trip and his motivation for testifying. County Looks to Wrap up Investigation

Chippewa County officials are getting ready to end their investigation into Sheriff Travis Hakes, without his input. The County Board of Supervisors has told the Madison-based law firm that is handling the investigation to prepare a final report. That report will not include any comments from Hakes.
