Maps Lead to More Debate

Wisconsin’s supreme court is staying out of the back-and-forth over election maps. The court yesterday said the Wisconsin Elections Commission, not the Supreme Court, should decide which map should be used for any election before November. The liberal-majority court did say in a ruling last December that Wisconsin’s old political maps are unconstitutional, and cannot be used going forward. WI Plans for Opioid Settlement Funds

A plan for the state’s share of opioid settlement funds has been turned in to the Wisconsin Legislature.  The State Department of Health Services will distribute 36-million dollars for preventing opioid addiction.  It’s requesting that five-million dollars go to after-school prevention programming and six-million be given to Tribal Nations.  Four-point-five-million would go to Narcan and fentanyl test strips.  Wisconsin will continue to get settlement funds annually.

Home Total Loss After Fire

At about 2:18 PM the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office responded to a structure fire near the intersection of Northshore Drive and Indian Hills Drive, in the Township of Seymour. On the other side of the Primary elections here in our state, there were no local surprises or upsets in Eau Claire’s local elections yesterday. The incumbents won in the races for school board and city council. Voters reelected Joshua Clements and Erica Zerr to the school board. They both got about 30 percent of the vote.
