Congressman Van Orden Investigating Faulty Equipment at VA

Western Wisconsin’s congressman is promising to get answers about faulty equipment at the Tomah VA.  Congressman Derrick Van Orden said he was just made aware of PT/INR lab equipment that wasn’t working properly.  Van Orden, who is a former Navy SEAL, said all veterans deserve top-notch care at the VA, and said that faulty equipment is life threatening and can’t be tolerated.

Trempealeau County Humane Society Seeks Help

Wisconsinites in celebrating the Official Friday Fish Fry Day with a fish fry on Friday. Governor Evers on Friday declared February 16th, 2024 as the state’s Official Friday Fish Fry Day. The governor’s proclamation traces the history of fish fry Fridays back to the nineteenth century, and recognizes how fish fry Fridays have helped the state’s taverns and supper clubs. Slam Dunk for UWEC’s Final Game at Zorn Arena

Arrests Made in WI Homicide Case

A 33-year-old woman’s death is being ruled a homicide and two have been arrested in relation to her death.  Ashley Ann Calo was found dead in her car after a single car accident earlier this week and foul play is suspected according to Fond du Lac police.  Annaka Winter Trudell has been arrested and charged with first-degree reckless homicide and an unidentified man has been charged with harboring or aiding a felon.  More is to be discovered in the case

Ruling Sides with Soybean Farmers

Wisconsin Soybean farmers will be allowed to use the weed killer with Dicamba despite a court ruling last week banning the substance.  The EPA is allowing already packaged goods with Dicamba to be sent out nationwide.  In Wisconsin sale and distribution will continue until the end of May with use allowed until the end of June.

Spelling Bee Takes Stage

The All-City Spelling Bee took place yesterday at M.A.T.C.’s Mitby Theater.  The Wisconsin State Journal sponsored the event for the 75th consecutive year.  Thirty-eight students from third to eighth grade from Madison competed in the competition.  Eighth grader Vincent Bautista from St. Maria Goretti Catholic School won the event.  He and the second and third place finishers will be going to the state wide competition on March 16th.
