Memorial Closer to Reality

The memorial to remember the people killed in the attack on Waukesha’s Christmas Parade is a big step closer to reality. City leaders broke ground on the memorial yesterday. The hope is to finish construction this fall. There’s a dedication ceremony planned for November 21st to mark the third anniversary of the attack. President Biden Visits, Touts Jobs

The president was once again talking about jobs at the Foxconn site. President Biden came to Racine yesterday to tout the thousands of jobs that will be created by a new Microsoft AI data center in Mount Pleasant. Microsoft is adding to its original one-point-four billion-dollar project, and will now spend over three billion-dollars on both the center and a number of training outreach hubs across the state. UW-Milwaukee Chancellor Addresses Protestors

The chancellor at UW-Milwaukee is giving protesters there another chance to take down their tents. Chancellor Mark Mone yesterday issued a statement to students, faculty, and staffers on campus. Mone said he recognizes the importance of the right to protest, and supports the idea of protests on campus. But Mone said UW-M cannot allow the illegal encampments to continue. He warned protesters that “if the encampment doesn’t end soon, UWM will have to take action to ensure that it does.”

Local Judge Announces Retirement

A change is coming to the bench in Eau Claire. Judge Michael Schumacher yesterday announced his retirement. He has served on the court in Eau Claire County since 2007. The governor is looking for a replacement. Schumacher’s last day will be in August.

State Street Sees Construction Orange

If your drive takes you down State Street, expect some delays. Crews are set to start work on State between Heather Road to Hamilton Avenue, next Wednesday. The project will see crews expand the road, and add bicycle lanes, new curbs and gutters, and a 10-foot multi-use path. The construction will close the road from May til November. The city says there will be detour signs posted.

Xcel Energy Shines Light on New Station

Western Wisconsin’s power company is moving ahead with a new non-solar power plant. Xcel Energy this week began work on a new, 244 million-dollar generation station in Wheaton. The idea is to replace the plant’s old and out-dated turbines and generators with new, much more efficient ones. WI Adds New Specialty License Plates

Wisconsin is adding two new specialty license plates.  One is a suicide prevention awareness license plate, featuring a green and blue gradient with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention logo.  The other plate features the phrase Spay, Neuter, Adopt, and images of a dog, cat, and bunny.  The proceeds from this plate will go toward a local nonprofit that helps pay for spaying and neutering services.  Both plates come with an extra 40-dollars in fees, including a tax-deductible donation to
