Remains Identified in WI Cold Case

Madison Police yesterday said they used DNA to identify Ronnie Kirk as the man whose bones were found in the chimney at the old Good ‘n Loud music store on University Avenue. Political Budget Battle Continues

Wisconsin’s governor wants a judge to order the legislature to give him nearly 200 million-dollars for PFAS clean-up, hospitals in western Wisconsin, and a new literacy program across the state. Governor Tony Evers yesterday sued Republican lawmakers. He said the legislature has been holding-up his efforts to clean-up the state, and provide much needed relief to people across Wisconsin. Fallen Officers Honored

Local officers were among those honored and added to the nation’s Police Officers’ Memorial . Cameron police officer Hunter Scheel and Chetek police officer Emily Breidenbach were killed in a shootout with a suspect last April. St. Croix County deputy Kaitie Leising died in a shootout in May of last year. Pepin County Sheriff’s Office officer Starre Miles, who died in a car wreck back in 1945 was also added to the memorial as was Milwaukee police officer Peter Jerving.

No Investigation into Hospital Closures

There will not be an investigation into how HSHS closed its hospitals in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services yesterday said it does not have the authority to open a criminal investigation into the hospital’s decision to close Sacred Heart and St, Joseph’s hospitals back in March. Air Quality Improves

The air above western Wisconsin is a little less-bad. The state’s Department of Natural Resources yesterday said the air quality over Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls is a little better than Sunday. Though, the DNR does expect smoke from Canadian wildfires to continue for a while. Those fires are burning for the second straight year.

Red Lobster Announces Closures

Most of Wisconsin’s Red Lobsters look to have survived the first round of closings. Red Lobster this week closed 48 restaurants across the country as the company looks at bankruptcy. The Red Lobsters in Wauwatosa and La Crosse are among those that closed yesterday. But the restaurants in Appleton, Ashwaubenon, Eau Claire, Greenfield, Madison and Mount Pleasant all appear to still be open. McConnell Seeks Secret Service, Security for RNC

The top Republican in the U.S. Senate wants to meet with the Secret Service about Milwaukee’s Republican National Convention. Mitch McConnell last week sent a letter to the Secret Service, asking to talk about security for this summer’s convention. Wisconsin’s supreme court is questioning whether it should once again allow for ballot drop boxes.
