Over the counter birth control is covered under Wisconsin insurance. BadgerCare Plus members will be able to pick up Opill without paying out of pocket. Opill is the first birth control medication approved by the FDA for use without a prescription or discussion with a doctor. It’ll be in pharmacies starting today and as available in the next few weeks.

Wisconsin is giving out almost four-million dollars in grants to help employers train thousands of employees. The state Department of Workforce Development says the money will go toward training in construction, health care, manufacturing, and transportation. With the funding, 22 employers will train more than two-thousand workers. The Wisconsin Fast Forward Program has given more than 49-million toward training 34-thousand workers.

A lawsuit has been filed against a UW-Eau Claire chancellor for racial discrimination. Olga Diaz, who served as Vice Chancellor of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Student Affairs from June 2021 until November 2022, filed the suit. She says Chancellor Jim Schmidt asked her to resign from her position for being a distraction and losing support of her team. Diaz says this happened after she supported Rochelle Hoffman, who also filed a suit against the university for racial discrimination. The University

A judge sentenced an Eau Claire man to prison for his meth-fueled rampage last Halloween. The judge yesterday gave Cole Evenson 13 months in prison for threatening to burn a woman’s house down, then breaking into another home and destroying a TV. Police say Evenson was high and naked at the time. He’s also accused of killing his roommate’s dog. As part if the sentence, Evenson must remain completely sober.

After four weeks, there’s finally word of a clue in the search for that missing Manitowoc County boy. There is a death investigation at Devil’s Lake State Park. The state’s Department of Natural Resources yesterday said they got a report of a dead body at the park. The investigation does not appear to be related to James Yoblonski, the 13-year-old who disappeared into the park last summer. Police in Wausau say they need two more officers to keep-up with the city’s homeless boom. Police Chief Matt Barnes told a city council committee last night that Wausau’s homeless population has essentially doubled in the past five months, and he says the current police force cannot keep-up. He says he needs more officers to deal with calls from the rest of the city as well.

Governor Evers was in our area as he stopped in Eau Claire to talk budgets and closures. The governor yesterday said Wisconsin Republicans are blocking his plan to spend 15 million-dollars on hospitals throughout the Chippewa Valley.
