There are charges for an elderly lady in Hawkins who police say tried to use 67 thousand-dollars in library money to buy gold. Prosecutors yesterday announced charges against 79-year-old Marcia Lyons. Investigators say she originally tried to wire transfer 95 thousand-dollars from the village library’s account to buy gold, but the bank said there wasn’t that much money in the account. Clear Windows For the City of Clear Water?

New windows in Eau Claire could look a little different going forward. The city is considering a bird-friendly glass ordinance. The idea, city planning manager Ned Noel said, is to try everything the city can to stop birds from flying into windows. The focus would be on office buildings and large commercial buildings, as opposed to homes. The Navigator Program looks to upgrade windows, insulation, and air conditioning units in older homes and older apartments.

Wisconsin’s Supreme Court is going to hear the challenge to Governor Evers’ 400-year school funding increase. The high court yesterday said it will accept the case from the Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce Litigation Center. Big Deal for Smallmouth Fans

Smallmouth bass harvest season is underway in Wisconsin. Catch-and-release for smallmouth bass is open year-round.  The harvest season opened on Saturday and will be open until early March. Eligible waters include the Northern Bass Management Zone, Wisconsin-Michigan Boundary Waters, Lake Superior, and Tributaries to Lake Michigan north of State Highway 19 in Door and Kewaunee Counties. The Eau Claire Fire Department responded to a structure early Sunday evening on Ervin Road. Truck 8 arrived to find smoke and fire showing from a window on the first floor of a two story residential structure. Crews on Scene of Lake Hallie Fire

No one was hurt in a house fire in Lake Hallie yesterday. Crews say the fire started in one room, but quickly spread to the rest of the house. Firefighters say it took them 15 minutes to knock down the flames once they arrived. There is no word on what caused the fire, or just how much damage it did.

Lockdown Lifted at Stillwater Prison

The prison in Stillwater is back to its normal schedule after a weekend death. The Minnesota Department of Corrections says a 22-year-old inmate was found dead in the prison Saturday morning. No one is saying just how the inmate died, but investigators say it looks like a death related to synthetic drugs. The prison was placed on a temporary lockdown on Saturday. DOC managers say that lockdown was lifted yesterday.

FATFAR Makes Splash

The largest tubing festival in the world wrapped-up another float trip over the weekend in Chippewa Falls. The FATFAR celebrated its 35 years this year. Each Father’s Day, thousands of people take to tubes, kayaks, and canoes and float down the river. This year was no different. WI Co. Set to Preserve Land

Dane County is spending nearly a million-dollars to turn over 300 acres of land in the Town of Christiana into a nature preserve. The county on Friday announced a 900-thousand-dollar grant to help the Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance buy the land for conservation.
