5.21.2024 UPDATE: The operator of the motorcycle was identified as 38 year old Joshua Martell of Clear Lake, WI. On May 18, 2024, at approximately 7:35 PM, the Dunn County Communication Center received a 911transfer call from the Barron County Sheriff’ Office, reporting a motorcycle crash with injuries. The crashoccurred on 145th Street, just north of County Road K in the Township of New Haven, Dunn County,Wisconsin. A suspicious death in Trempealeau County is now being called a homicide. The sheriff’s office yesterday upgraded last week’s death in Ettrick.  There are some unanswered questions in the case. The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office says the death happened last Wednesday near Highway 53 and County Road TT. The person’s identity hasn’t been revealed or how they died. 

Two people are dead after a crash in Polk County. It happened yesterday morning in the Village of Milltown. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says it looks like the driver crossed the centerline on State Highway 35, hit a ditch, hit some trees, then rolled-over. The driver was found dead inside the car. The passenger was tossed out during the wreck.

A Campbellsport high school track star will be able to run at today’s regional track meet after his parents’ address was straightened-out. The WIAA originally said Josh Onwunili couldn’t run because his parents are living in Africa as part of a mission trip. But on Friday, the WIAA said it confirmed Onwunili’s father’s visa status, and cleared him to run. His case attracted attention from across the state, including the attention of several state lawmakers. Onwunili says he’s excited to

State investigators continue to say they don’t know who planted the marijuana found growing outside the Wisconsin Capitol.  Capitol Police found the pot growing in a tulip bed outside the statehouse last week.  Investigators say it was clearly planted, because it was spaced-out and growing in intervals.  No one knows just when the pot was planted, but it’s been taken out of the flower bed and taken into evidence.

Senator Ron Johnson is telling Wisconsin Republicans they need to be united in their position on abortion. Johnson spoke on Saturday at the state GOP convention in Appleton. He told the delegates in attendance that Democrats are going to turn the 2024 election into a “referendum on abortion.” Johnson acknowledged that “many people in this room do not like” what he’s saying, but “in the end, we have to win elections.”

After more than seven decades and 100-thousand graduates, UW-Eau Claire commencement ceremonies will have a new home. Saturday’s graduation at Zorn Arena was the last in the facility that opened in 1952. University officials say the all-time 100-thousandth UW-Eau Claire graduate was among the near 15-hundred students who received their degrees on Saturday. The school’s next commencement ceremony will be in December at the Sonnetag Center, which opens this fall.

A deadly crash remains under investigation. It was just before 1am on Saturday May 18, 2024 that a crash occurred on I-94 WB at Interstate 94 at Mile Post 5 in Hudson. St. Croix County responded. Reportedly, the vehicle had swerved to miss a deer in the roadway and entered the ditch. The vehicle came to a stop after striking a tree. A female passenger was pronounceddeceased at the scene of the crash.
