There is a search for deer poachers in Fond du Lac County. The sheriff’s office yesterday said they are looking for a suspect or suspects who’ve been shooting deer across the county. Investigators say they’ve gotten reports about shots fired in the middle of the night, someone shooting from the road, and they’ve found deer with bullet holes in them. VP Harris Plans EC Stop With Running Mate

It’s Eau Claire. Vice President Kamala Harris is coming to Eau Claire next Wednesday with her running mate. There’s no word who that will be, but we at least now know where Harris will be making her campaign stop. Next week’s visit will be the first time she’s been to Eau Claire. The campaign rally will be in Eau Claire, sometime between noon and 6 p.m.

Report Released on WI AI

There aren’t a lot of specifics in the action report from Governor Evers’ AI task force. The governor’s Task Force on Workforce and Artificial Intelligence released its report yesterday. It focuses on the ‘guiding principles to promote ethical decision-making related to AI,’ but the task force didn’t say just what that means. Evers’ AI task force looked at artificial intelligence and the state’s workforce. A task force from lawmakers is looking at the dangers that AI presents to Wisconsin.

Miu Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison

A man found guilty of a deadly stabbing on the Apple River in Wisconsin is sentenced to 20 years in prison.   Nicolae Miu killed one teenager and injured four others in 2022.  Miu pleaded not guilty, claiming the teenagers were harassing him and he was acting in self-defense. The prosecution says Miu had multiple opportunities to walk away from the teens if he felt threatened. A jury found him guilty after a trial in April.

Reedsburg Man Sentenced for Crash that Killed 13-Year-Old Girl

 The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) today announced Kevin Green, 19, of Reedsburg, Wis. has been sentenced after pleading guilty to Homicide by Negligent Operation of a Vehicle for driving the vehicle that struck and killed a 13-year-old child as she boarded a school bus on May 12, 2023. Green has been sentenced to four years of probation with conditions to include 3 months conditional jail with Huber, 200 hours of community service with a minimum of 50 hours per

Emplify Health Arriving in Mondovi

A shut down Hospital Sisters Prevea clinic will be reopened.  The vacant building in Mondovi is being bought by Bellin and Gunderson Health System, who are changing their name to Emplify Health.  They say the Mondovi clinic will be affiliated with Gunderson Tri-County Hospital and Clinics in Whitehall and will start seeing patients by this November. H-S-H-S and Prevea clinics shut down all of their Western Wisconsin hospitals and clinics this spring.

Workers Comp. Insurance Premiums See Decline

Insurance premiums for workers compensation in Wisconsin continue to decline. The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development says starting in October, companies will pay ten-point-five percent less on average for workers compensation. That totals about 206-million dollars in savings over the next year statewide. Specific changes in insurance premiums for employers vary based on factors like injury risk exposure. Workers comp pays for medical expenses and lost wages for employees who were injured at their workplace.

State Park Sticker Design Winner from Rice Lake

The winner of the 2025 Wisconsin State Park and Forest vehicle admission sticker design contest has been chosen. The contest accepts entries from high school age students across Wisconsin. Rice Lake High School junior Evan Strand won first place out of about 150 entries. His design will be printed on admission stickers for more than 500-thousand vehicles. The annual state park and forest admission stickers give access to more than 60 state-managed areas and cost 28-dollars for state residents. CLICK

UW Organ Transplant Tops National List

An organ transplant program at the University of Wisconsin Health has the highest one-year survival rate nationwide. The Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients says the UW Health Lung Transplant Program has about a 95-percent rate of survival one year post-operation. The national average rate is about 88-percent. The program also has a shorter waiting period; the average national wait time is one month, while UW’s is twelve days.

Meat Recall Expanded

Boar’s Head is recalling seven-million more pounds of deli meat following two listeria deaths, one in New Jersey, another in Illinois. In addition to those two deaths, the CDC says at least 34 people have gotten sick in 13 states. Nearly all have been hospitalized and ranged in age from 32 to 94.
