WI Lawmakers Address State Youth Prisons

Wisconsin lawmakers are turning their attention to the state’s youth prisons this week. The Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety will hold a hearing tomorrow in Merrill to get answers about the Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake Schools. Nursing Profession Faces Shortages

There is a warning about a pending lack of nurses in Wisconsin. The state’s Department of Workforce Development on Friday said it expects Wisconsin to be short nearly 20 thousand nurses by 2040. DWD says the numbers could be as low as 12 thousand nurses, but the agency is worried nonetheless. DWD says the shortage is being caused by a growth in medical care, and a lack of qualified nurses to fill the new jobs that are opening up.

DWD Grant Focuses on Apprenticeship

The Department of Workforce Development announced it has been awarded more than 1-million dollars to expand Wisconsin’s Registered Apprenticeship and Certified Pre-Apprenticeship programs.  The DWD says the grant will increase its ability to boost Wisconsin’s connection to the national apprenticeship system, expanding opportunities and strengthening the workforce while positioning the economy to succeed.  The award is part of the U.S. Department of Labor’s State Apprenticeship Expansion Formula funding  produced by President Biden’s “investing in America” agenda. Great American Outdoors Act Turns 4, National Parks Wave Fees

Hundreds of National Parks across the U.S. are waiving entrance fees on Sunday. August 4th marks four years since the Great American Outdoors Act was signed into law. Wisconsin Launches First Home Energy Rebates Program

WI Tuition Promise Announced

Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman announced the Wisconsin Tuition Promise will fund a new section of students starting in fall 2025.  Under the tuition promise, students who come from families earning $55-thousand or less annually will be able to attend 11 UWs without having to pay tuition or fees.
