Hope Village Breaks Ground

Ground is broken on a new affordable housing complex in Chippewa Falls. Hope Village is planning to build three complexes, offering six two- and three-bedroom units each. The non-profit is working on plans for five duplexes. The more than 25 units will be built throughout the Chippewa Valley, and some will be complete as soon as next April. Smile! Dental Program Renewed in WI

A dental program for children in Wisconsin is renewed for the 25th year. The Department of Health Services says the Seal-A-Smile program brings preventive dental services directly to schools across the state. Last year, more than 86-thousand students got free dental sealants, which D-H-S says prevents most cavities. The department says students with dental pain from cavities or other oral health issues are three times more likely to miss school. Campus Harvest Food Pantry Celebrates Anniversary, New Location

ABOVE PHOTO: In the new B.F.A. in illustration at UW-Stout, students will learn drawing, painting, printmaking, comics and other aspects of art and design. Illustration has been a common thread uniting students in University of Wisconsin-Stout’s School of Art and Design for many years. Now, they can pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration, the first degree of its kind in the Universities of Wisconsin. The program, approved last spring by the UW Board of Regents, gets underway with the fall semester.

Most of the people in Eau Claire who lost power because of last night’s storms have their lights back on. Xcel Energy reported as of 4 a.m. today that just under 700 people were without power. EC City Council to Vote on Campaign Spending

Eau Claire’s city council supports limits on federal campaign spending. The council will vote tonight on an advisory resolution to support a constitutional amendment that would essentially undo the Citizens United decision. WI Lawmakers Update PFAS Rules

Wisconsin’s governor wants to update the rules for PFAS contamination in the state’s drinking water. Governor Tony Evers and the Department of Natural Resources this month introduced an update for the state’s clean water standards. The Wisconsin Supreme Court will not keep the Green Party off the ballot this November. The court yesterday rejected a request from the Democratic National Committee to block the Green Party. Democrats said the Greens couldn’t run Jill Stein for president because the party doesn’t have any elected officials in Wisconsin.
