Runaway Cow in Chippewa Co.

There is a runaway cow in Chippewa County. The sheriff’s office took to Facebook this week to say a cow escaped a farm on State Highway 27 on Tuesday, and hasn’t been wrangled just yet. Deputies say the cow broke through a fence and hasn’t let anyone get close since. The sheriff’s office says people need to be careful, and watch out for the runaway cow if they are driving in the area south of County Highway S in Cadott.

Online Map Sets Private, Public Lands

A new online map will distinguish between private and public lands in Wisconsin. The state Department of Natural Resources says the mapping application will show state-owned trails, lakeshores, and rivers, along with state parks and county forests. The DNR says the map is simpler than earlier editions and will be kept up to date. The map is available through the Public Access Lands Atlas app and on the DNR’s website.

Elk Hunters Selected

Eight Wisconsinites will be able to hunt elk during the 2024 season, which starts in October. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says four of the hunters will be able to hunt in the Black River Elk Zone. It’s the first year the zone has been available since elk were reintroduced in Wisconsin. More than 17-thousand hunters sent in applications, and winners were chosen at random.

Charter Schools Set for Federal Funding

Some charter schools in Wisconsin are getting more than eleven-million dollars. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction says twelve charter schools will split the federal funding to open, plan, or expand their schools. Funding was prioritized for schools that serve educationally disadvantaged students and show strong academic achievement. The second round of applications for funding will open this fall.

Partisan sample ballots for the August Wisconsin primaries are available. Political parties narrow down their candidates for the November election during the primaries.
