There’s an opening for a new sheriff in Clark County. Governor Tony Evers says he’s looking for someone to fill the position, left open after Sheriff Scott Haines retirement. The new sheriff will serve a term that starting on December 31, and ending January 2027. Applications are available on Evers-dot-W-I-dot-gov, and are open until October eleventh. The Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation announced a significant addition to Longfellow Elementary School. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will mark the official unveiling of brand-new playground equipment, generously funded in large part by American Phoenix as well as proceeds from the Jeanne Richie Memorial Puddle Jump. This event will start at 4:00pm on September 25 th with an ice cream social for Longfellow families. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is issuing a public health alert for Wild Rice & Cheddar Cheese Bratwursts and Wild Rice & Cranberry Bratwursts produced by Maloney’s Baloney in Durand. This alert is due to the product being misbranded and containing an undeclared allergen. On September 19, 2024, at 12:59 pm, the St. Croix County Emergency Communication Center  received a call reporting a motorcycle crash with injuries, located on the onramp from STH 35 to I 94 in the Town of Hudson.   Upon arrival, deputies found a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle crashed in the north bound lane  of STH 35.   The motorcycle had been traveling north on STH 35, and was operated by Anthony D. The Marshfield Fire & Rescue Department was dispatched to Tower Hall Apartments, 112 East 2nd Street for a fire alarm and smell of smoke. Engine 3, Engine 2, Truck 1 and Ambulance 95 responded with eight personnel and was assisted by the Marshfield Police Department. Former UW-La Crosse chancellor Joe Gow says he may sue if the University of Wisconsin fires him for making porn videos. Joe Gow told reporters he may sue to try and keep his job as a professor. Gow had a hearing before UW regents on Friday, but said it did not go well. He says not a single regent asked him a single question. The former Army soldier from Racine who bolted into North Korea last year is no longer in the Army.  Travis King pleaded guilty to desertion and other charges in a military court on Friday. A judge then sentenced him to time served, and dishonorably discharged him from the service. King ran into North Korea last year to avoid being sent home for a fight he’d gotten into in South Korea. Police in Rice Lake say last week’s backfiring car caused a ‘panic’ at the local middle school football game. Officers rushed all over town last Thursday because of reports of gunshots. One of those reports came from Rice Lake Middle School, where there was a football game at the time. Officers say coaches dove on players, while parents rushed other kids off the field. Robert Kennedy Jr.’s ballot fate is now in the hands of Wisconsin’s liberal-majority Supreme Court. Justices on Friday agreed to decide Kennedy’s ballot access case. He is arguing that Wisconsin law creates two different timelines to get off the ballot, one for Republicans and Democrats, and another for independent candidates.  A Dane County judge has already ruled against him. Wisconsin is looking at another AI project. The state’s economic development arm, the WEDC, is putting together a concept paper for a new manufacturing AI effort. The National Institute of Standards and Technology is driving the project. WEDC boss Missy Hughes says if Wisconsin is chosen, it could mean tens of millions of dollars in investment into the state.
