Smaller Crowd Through NWSF Gates

It was a bit smaller of a crowd at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair this year.  Fair managers yesterday said about 110-thousand people walked through the fair’s gates this year.  Manager Rusty Volk says that’s about 10-percent less than last year. Volk blames the heat and the economy for the smaller crowd. Volk did say that the Leinenkugel Main Stage and the Northwestern Bank Grandstand brought out pretty good crowds for this year’s concerts.

Gas Powered Cars Remain Popular in WI

Most people in Wisconsin want to keep their gas-powered cars. The state’s largest business group, Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce is out with a new poll that says 59-percent of people in the state opposed a gas-powered car ban. Vets Ready Employer Initiative Kicks Off

Wisconsin employers who hire veterans are able to apply for the Vets Ready Employer Initiative. The state Department of Workforce Development says the initiative recognizes employers who hire and retain veterans and help connect them with the community. Suspect Takes Plea Deal, Three Others Pending

The first of four suspects in a 2022 murder in Eau Claire has accepted a plea deal. Michael Purnell yesterday agreed to a no contest plea for the shooting death of Christopher Connell. Purnell’s deal saw prosecutors agree to drop  first degree murder charges in exchange for new charges of being party to felony murder. Investigation Continues Into Prisoner Death

There are new, disturbing details about the man accused of killing and chopping-up Sade Robinson. Newly unsealed search warrants say investigators found an axe, a woman’s ID card, several weapons, and women’s underwear hidden at Maxwell Anderson’s home. Coast Guard Continues Search After Boat Capsized

Two children are dead after a boat capsized over the weekend in the bay of Green Bay. The Coast Guard in Sturgeon Bay made that announcement yesterday. The sailboat was on its way from Green Island to Oconto when it lost contact. The Coast Guard says a three-year-old and five-year-old were on the board with their father. Menomonie is ready to allow ATVs and UTVs on city streets. The city council last night approved the plan to let people drive in town.
