Former Teacher Sentenced to Prison

A western Wisconsin teacher is heading to prison for having sex with one of his students. A judge yesterday sentenced Brandon Fuhrman to two years in prison, and 15 years on the sex offender registry for having sex with one of his students when he taught in the Ellsworth School District. Fuhrman was 23 at the time. The student was 17. He pleaded guilty in the case earlier this year.

Investigation Underway Into Former Deputy

A former Monroe County deputy is facing sexual assault charges in a case out of La Crosse County. Prosecutors filed charges against  29-year-old Aaron Yang last month, he was in court to answer those charges yesterday.  He’s accused of having sex with a then-16-year-old last year. The victim told investigators he asked her to babysit his daughter at his apartment in La Crosse. La Crosse Police started investigating the case in May, he was arrested in June, and he resigned

Vue’s Mother Set to Plead Guilty

Elijah Vue’s mom is now set to plead guilty at the end of the month. Katrina Bauer was due to plead guilty yesterday, but her attorneys asked for a delay. They say there are still some things that need to be worked-out. Bauer is only facing neglect charges in her son’s disappearance. Smile! You’re on Camera While Voting?

It won’t happen for this year’s elections, but a pair of Republican lawmakers want to add cameras and cops to ballot drop boxes in Wisconsin. State Rep. Scott Krug and state Senator Dan Knodl have introduced legislation that would require cities or counties that use ballot drop boxes to have them under 24/7 video surveillance. A speech from former President Donald Trump is expected tonight, the last day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. It’ll be the first time Trump has directly addressed the nation since his attempted assassination last weekend at a rally in Pennsylvania. A Wisconsin-based restaurant chain is recognized in the state with its own honorary day. Governor Tony Evers has declared July 18th Culver’s Day. The company was founded on the same day in 1984 in Sauk City by Craig, Lea, George, and Ruth Culver. Currently, there are almost a thousand Culver’s locations in 26 U-S states.

WI Ticket Hits Big, $4.3 Million Dollar Winner

The Wisconsin only lotto game, Megabucks, had a mega winner on Wednesday night. A $4.3 million jackpot winning ticket was sold at Kwik Trip on 549 W. Bannerman Ave in Redgranite for the July 17 drawing. The winning numbers were 6-8-14-26-33-37. The jackpot is the largest Wisconsin Lottery prize won in 2024 so far. Not to be confused with the multi-jurisdictional game Mega Millions, Megabucks is only offered in Wisconsin and is one of the longest-running lotto games in the Badger State. Megabucks offers two plays for $1.

WI Air Quality Remains Good

Air quality is good in Wisconsin, other than in the Milwaukee area. Smoke from wildfires in Canada and the Western United States is drifting toward the Midwest. Unlike last summer, the smoke is light and high in the atmosphere. The EPA lists air quality as good across the state, but says the Milwaukee area has moderate particulate matter due to smoke and exhaust.
