Bat Boxes Coming to La Crosse

They’re getting bat boxes in La Crosse. The Wisconsin DNR and the La Crosse Parks Department are teaming up to add bat boxes in Pettibone Park. The boxes are a natural fit for bats because it gives them a tight space to sleep, but the boxes are also necessary after recent floods pushed the bats out from their usual home under the bridge at the park. Sunday Funday, Sunday Bus Day?

Advocates want Sunday bus service in Eau Claire. The Chippewa Valley Transit Alliance and several other groups rallied at Wilson Park yesterday, demanding more bus service in and around the city.  Organizer Lynn Buske said a lot of people depend on the bus to get to work or get to the store, and without Sunday service many people can’t go too far. The problem is money. Eau Claire Transit managers say it would cost a lot to add Sunday service.

EC County Set for ATV, UTV Use

Most roads are open for ATV and UTV use in Eau Claire County. The County Sheriff’s Office says unless a road sign specifically says no ATVs are allowed on the road, it should be open for use. The utility vehicles must stay as far to the right of the roadway as possible, and follow speed limits of 35 miles per hour, unless the marked speed limit is slower. WI Plans Investment in Rural Roads

Wisconsin is investing about 50-million dollars for rural road improvements. The state Department of Transportation says the money will go toward 37 projects in 28 Wisconsin counties. The projects are focused on helping Wisconsin farmers and producers by improving roads and bridges they need to transport their products statewide. It’s the first round of funding through the Agricultural Roads Improvement Program. The application period for 100-million more dollars in ARIP funding will open later this summer.

WI Man Who Fled to Ireland Returns to Prison Sentence

 A Milwaukee man who fled to Ireland to escape a January 6th prison term could be looking at more time behind bars. Paul Kovacik went to Ireland looking for political asylum after being sentenced for being inside the Capitol on January 6th. He was supposed to report to prison for a three-month sentence last year, but went overseas instead. He came back last month after feeling homesick. Victims Identified in Oshkosh Area Plane Crash

Local Campuses Bow Out of High School Program

UW-Eau Claire is one of just three UW schools that is not directly admitting high school students this month. The university yesterday said tens of thousands of incoming high school seniors will get a letter next week telling them that they have been accepted to the university.
