Gov. Evers Appoints EC Judge

An Eau Claire Deputy City Attorney is now a county judge. Governor Tony Evers appointed Douglas Hoffer to the Eau Claire County Circuit Court Branch Two seat, which was left open by Judge Michael Schumacher.  The former judge resigned in May. Hoffer’s last day at the City Attorney’s Office will be August 16th, and his term as judge will end next July.  Hoffer lives in Eau Claire with his family, and graduated from Marquette University Law School.

Million Dollars Bond, Murder Suspects Appear in Court

It’s a million-dollars bond for two of the suspects in last year’s murder of a 15-year-old girl in Madison. The three made their first appearance yesterday in the shooting death of 15-year-old Kyesha Miller. All three were charged after police arrested one of the suspects last weekend. On July 25, 2024, at 5:07 p.m., the Eau Claire Police Department and Eau Claire Fire Rescue responded to a crash involving an SUV and motorcycle at the intersection of W. Clairemont Avenue and American Boulevard. The preliminary investigation shows a motorcyclist was traveling westbound on W. Clairemont Avenue and collided with an SUV that was turning onto W. WI DNR Offers Discount on New License Plates

Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources is offering a discount to get people to buy new endangered resources license plates. The state is updating the design, going from the basic red and white license plate with a wolf on the side, to a new full-color plate that features a bald eagle going after a fish. A chase ends in arrest for a Hudson man. 28 year old Paul Martin Allen from Hudson has been arrested by the Wisconsin State  Patrol Eau Claire Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 6th offense.   On 7/25/2024 at 1:54 AM a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper attempted to stop a vehicle for unsafe  lane deviation at milepost 45 in Dunn County near Menomonie on I-94. Lawmakers Set to Study Sandhill Cranes

The Wisconsin legislature is looking at what to do with the state’s sandhill cranes. A new legislative study committee will meet next week to look at ways to control the sandhill crane population. The cranes have been a problem for farmers for years because they eat just-planted corn during their spring migration. Many states have a sandhill crane hunting season, but Wisconsin does not. The legislative study committee isn’t expected to have any suggestions until at least later next year.
