Cause of National Forest Fire Under Investigation

On Tuesday, October 8, 2024 a wildfire was detected by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WI DNR) in the Bear Paw Semi-Primitive Area of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, east of the town of Mountain, WI. DOR Shares WI Shared Revenue Totals

  Wisconsin’s estimated shared revenue for 2025 is slightly more than one-point-five billion dollars. The Department of Revenue says shared revenue is one of the most significant sources of funding for local governments from the state. Governor Tony Evers says he signed the law tying local government funding to state sales taxes in 2023 following negotiations with Republican leadership. State aid can be used for public works, law enforcement, emergency medical services, and other activities approved by local governments.

Local Crews Help Hurricane Zones

On Tuesday, October 9, 2024, two Marshfield Utilities Lineworkers joined a caravan of 22 other Wisconsin Municipal Utilities departing from South Beloit, IL, to trek to Kissimmee, Florida. They will assist Kissimmee Utility Authority with power restoration after Hurricane Milton. Crews are expected to arrive in central Florida by mid-day Thursday. Cranes of WI Plates Available

The International Crane Foundation has announced that the Cranes of Wisconsin license plates are now available to order from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Former Teacher Heads to Trial

The Hudson teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a fifth grader is headed for trial. A St. Croix County judge yesterday said there’s enough evidence to go to trial against Madison Bergmann. She’s looking at ten felony charges for what prosecutors say was an inappropriate sexual relationship with one of her elementary school students.  She was fired and arrested back in May after the principal at River Crest Elementary called the police about Bergmann and the boy. Charges Filed in WI Cold Case

There are finally charges in the death of a UW-La Crosse student from back in 1985. Prosecutors in Vernon County yesterday filed charges against Michael Popp for Terry Dolowy’s murder 39-years-ago. He was arrested back in September after a DNA match on evidence from her death. Popp is being held on a million-dollars bond, and faces life in prison if convicted.

EC Seeking Poll Workers Ahead of Election Day
