CRACKING OPEN CHARGES

Two people are facing charges after a crash in Eau Claire County. That happened yesterday evening on Highway 37 in the Township of Brunswick, when a car crossed the center line and hit another vehicle.  Both drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the car was arrested for drunk driving causing injury and his passenger was arrested for a probation violation.

The Durand football stadium is expected to SCORE  a new place ahead of schedule.  The Durand-Arkansaw School District said that construction may be wrapped up in just a couple weeks-and the cleats will get dirty this Saturday as The Panthers are planning to take the field for a short practice.

DISTRACTED DRIVING: NOTHING TO LOL AT

The Department of Transportation is launching a campaign aimed at fighting distracted driving. The DOT is partnering with students at Indian Community School to create a public service announcement highlighting the dangers of distracted driving, which the department says causes nearly three crashes every hour in the state.

CATCH A BEEP BASEBALL GAME!

Have you heard the BUZZ?? The Beep Baseball World Series is underway in Eau Claire. While the players are on the field, nonprofit group Guide Dogs for the Blind is housing more than 20 dogs.  The goal is to provide the best care for man’s best friends while their handlers fully participate in the sport.  The Beep baseball world series runs through Saturday at various local fields in Eau Claire. Smoking is now banned in public housing. A nationwide ban went into effect Tuesday that prohibits smoking in or near public housing facilities.  The rule was passed two years ago by the Obama administration and prohibits the use of cigarettes, cigars and pipes in all public housing units, common areas and outdoor areas within 25 feet.  The rule does not apply to e-cigarettes, snuff and chewing tobacco. DOWNtown is right on schedule to open UP! Sounds like everything is on pace to open in September. The pedestrian foot bridge spanning the Eau Claire River is in place and the new wall along the river is almost finished.  The Pablo Center at the Confluence is nearly set to move in-start shopping for your fancy outfits now! FIRE STRIKES BOWLING ALLEY

A fire that destroyed a popular bar and bowling alley in Friendship is under investigation. Fire crews were called just after one o’clock Monday to the Friendship Bar and Bowl in the Village of Friendship.  A portion of Highway 13 was closed while crews battled the blaze.  Nearly 40 firefighters responded to the scene, where the building is considered a total loss, but there were no injuries.
