A new boat launch could make a splash soon. The city council is set to vote today on a proposal to build a new boat launch on the Chippewa River.  A nearly 80-thousand dollar stewardship grant was awarded to the City of Eau Claire Department of Community Service to develop the southwest boat launch on Ferry Street.  Matching funds would be provided by the city. 

Members of a Sun Prairie Girl Scout troop are honoring a Chippewa Falls troop through service.  Three Girl Scouts and a troop mother were hit and killed as they were picking up litter on the side of a rural highway near Chippewa Falls.  The girls in the Sun Prairie troop are working with the Sunshine Place to wrap gifts being collected for 450 families in need.  The troop started a wrapping supplies drive yesterday.

The Eaux Claires music festival website says there will be no event held in 2019. The statement posted yesterday announced that the festival would return in 2020 in downtown Eau Claire.  The founders and organizers indicate they may have public events at the Pablo Center to discuss the new direction on the festival. 

Due to a fire that occurred Saturday, December 8th the U.S. Postal Service has made the decision to immediately emergency suspend the Almena Post Office. In the interim, Post Office Box delivery and retail services have been relocated to the Barron Post Office located at 437 E La Salle Avenue in Barron. The Barron Post Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Almena customers may retrieve their

 The Hollandale community is rallying behind a family of six that escaped with their lives from a house fire.  Fire crews were called to the home Saturday morning and found it engulfed in flames.  A single father and his five children ranging in age from kindergarten to fifth grade all got out okay, but lost all their possession, including Christmas gifts.  The Hollandale Fire Department has posted information for those who may want to donate to the family. Deliberations continue in the stalking case of Fox Crossing municipal Judge Len Kachinsky.  He’s charged with stalking his court clerk.  Deliberations began on Friday, but the jury today sent a note to the judge saying they were split.  The judge sent the jurors back to deliberate again, but the case could be headed for a mistrial. 

On Saturday, December 8, 2018 at approximately 1:28am, a Lake Hallie Police Officer was on patrol when he observed a White Chevy Suburban drive past a stop sign at a high rate of speed, failing to obey the traffic sign. The vehicle was driven on 30th Avenue through the stop sign controlling traffic at the CTH-OO intersection. The officer activated his emergency lights and siren and attempted to stop the vehicle. The Suburban did notstop, and the vehicle speed increased

December 9, 2018, at approximately 1:58 PM the Menomonie Police Department (MPD) responded to a report of an unknown male subject that unlawfully entered an apartment located at 1420 2nd Street West duringthe morning hours of the same day. The subject left the apartment after being observed by one of the occupants. As the MPD was investigating the aforementioned incident two more complaints of an unknown male suspect entering residences were reported. The additional incident locations were 1421 South Broadway

Barron native Chris Kroeze will be fighting for his life tonight in the top eight of NBC’s The Voice.  The field of eight contestants will be cut in half tomorrow after tonight’s performances, setting up the final four next week.  Tonight’s episode airs at 7:00 p.m. and voting opens up directly afterwards. 

A man is facing child pornography charges in Eau Claire County following the results of an online investigation.  Investigators say they were led to the house of 23-year-old Tommy Xiong in November after an investigation on a website for people who share child porn.  Police say Xiong admitted to having pornographic photos of underage kids on his laptop and was arrested.  He’s due back in court this week.
