Unemployment Rates Down in WI

Preliminary unemployment rates for August are down in Wisconsin. The State Department of Workforce Development says the non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is two-point-five, down from three-point-three in July. The department says rates decreased in all twelve metropolitan areas in August, as well as over the last year. The City of Janesville has an all-time low unemployment rate of two-point-five percent.

New Program for Older Homes

A new state program will help owners of older homes afford repairs and improvements that will improve energy efficiency and safety. The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority announced the program launch. Madison Gets Credit for Credit Habits

Madison is one of the ten U-S cities where people are most diligent about their credit. A new report by Wallet-Hub compared 100 of the largest cities based on the number of missed payments, bankruptcies, and frozen credit reports. Madison ranked ninth most diligent, while Seattle and Scottsdale topped the list. Memphis and Detroit were ranked least diligent.

Marathon Co. Horse Tests Positive for EEE

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has confirmed that an unvaccinated 2-year-old gelding in Marathon County has tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). It is the state’s first confirmed case of EEE in a horse this year. DATCP has not had a reported case of EEE in Wisconsin since 2021, but cases have been reported in other states this year. Flags Lowered to Honor WI Veteran

Tony Evers signed Executive Order #241 ordering the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, in honor of U.S. Army Air Force Staff Sgt. Ralph H. Children Safe, Suspect Arrested and Held in Barron Co. Jail

Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., the Ashland Police Department alerted the  Barron County Sheriff’s Department that they received information that the two children (age 6  and 3) abducted from Ashland may be in the area of LE Phillips Scout Reservation near Haugen.   Deputies from the Sheriff’s Department started to check the area. Shooting Investigation Continues in Neillsville

Police are asking questions after they say a four-year-old was shot in Neillsville. It happened yesterday morning at a home on West 7th Street.  Police say the four-year-old was rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Investigators say an underage relative shot the little girl. They are not calling the shooting an accident, yet, and police are not saying how old the relative is.
