The Eau Claire school board is planning to approve listening sessions for plans to redraw elementary school boundaries at its meeting tonight.  The district executive director of administration says she wants to decide on a solid time frame and a more detailed plan after the meeting.  The Leader-Telegram reports the board is currently considering plans to re-purpose Roosevelt Elementary School into a four-K school or a general pre-K and elementary school. 

The Chippewa Valley After Hours Rotary Club is conducting its third annual Thanksgiving Dinner Drive this week to put a traditional Thanksgiving meal on the table of local families in need. After providing a meal to 19 families in its inaugural event in 2016 the club has expanded its efforts to help 34 families in 2018. Club members will gather TONIGHT (Tuesday) night at 6:00 p.m. at the Eagle’s Club in Lake Hallie to assemble the meals for the families.

Volunteers in Rusk County are doing their part to raise money in remembrance of a fallen police officer.  A fundraiser took place at JS Supper Club in Ladysmith yesterday for the Sheriff’s Deputy Dan Glaze scholarship.  More than 20 vendors attended the event and more than 100 items were raffled off.  The scholarship organizers plan to raise five-thousand dollars to give to a Rusk County student planning to go into law enforcement in honor of Deputy Glaze. 

Barron native Chris Kroeze is beginning his top 12 journey on NBC’s The Voice tonight.  Kroeze got enough votes last week to get into the top 12 and make it to the live playoffs.  Fans can vote tonight by either streaming Kroeze’s song on Apple Music or Xfinity or by voting on The Voice app and at nbc-dot-com.  Voting ends at 6:00 o’clock tomorrow morning. 

A new program at the Dunn County Jail is helping college students with art education.  The Program for Arts Integration for New Teachers is an internship where students get to teach art to inmates at the jail for a semester.  The Dunn County News reports one intern recently went as far as to say that the program has been one of the most fulfilling and satisfying parts of her education. 

Middle school students in Chippewa Falls are getting the opportunity to get career information from workers in the medical field.  Over the weekend about 40 seventh graders from Chippewa Falls Middle School got hands on education from medical experts at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital as part of the School-2-Skills program.  The students also visited Chippewa Valley Technical College to better understand what courses they need to take to pursue the career of their choice. 

Both Trinity Lutheran Church and Hope Gospel Mission are hosting Thanksgiving dinners this week.  Organizers at Trinity Lutheran expect to feed around 500 people Thursday and will also have kids activities, youth tying fleece blankets, and a TV to watch football.  They are accepting donations to support their Hunger Ministries.  Local suppliers donated the food for Hope Gospel Mission’s dinner Thursday and organizers expect to feed about 300 people. More than 100 volunteers work to make the event possible. 

Eau Claire is one often locations where the Festival Foods Turkey Trot is taking place.  The Thanksgiving Day race will begin at Hobbs Ice Arena and will include a five mile or two mile route that is dog-friendly. Funds raised from the Turkey Trot will go to support the local YMCA and Boys and Girls Club. 

It’s a communiTREE event in town as the inaugural FEZtival of Trees fundraiser is underway at the Masonic Ballroom in Eau Claire.  The week-long event began yesterday with a display of 20 pre-lit artificial trees donated by businesses and organizations decorated using the theme old-fashioned Christmas.  The trees will be raffled off after Thankgiving.  Organizers say they are expecting up to two thousand people by the end of the event, and that all money raised will stay in the Eau

Local skate boarders are advocating for safe skating spaces.  The Eau Claire Skaters Association held an open discussion last night about raising funds for a skate park in Boyd Park.  The association has been working on the effort for about five years and is approaching its goal of 75-thousand dollars.
