PHONE APP HELPS SAVE KIDNAPPED TEEN

A 13-year-old girl is safe after a crime spree in Outagamie County that included her kidnapping and multiple car thefts.  The sheriff’s office says a suspect is in custody after crashing into the back of a public safety truck at Appleton Airport late last night and then stealing a pickup truck from someone who stopped to help.  The pickup had a thirteen-year-old inside who was eventually dropped off at a gas station in Grand Chute.  The girl helped police find

BELOIT SHOOTING SUSPECT IDENTIFIED

Beloit police are releasing the name of the suspect involved in a deadly shooting.  Jose Reyes was killed Wednesday on Harrison Avenue near Park Avenue.  The suspect is identified as Ezekiel Acosta.  The charges are being reviewed by the district attorney and more information is expected to be released next week.

The Wisconsin Badgers close out their regular season with a kickoff against rival Minnesota.  The Badgers head into the action with a record of 7-and-4 overall and 5-and-3 in the Big Ten.  Wisconsin is coming off the 47-44 overtime win over Purdue, while Minnesota is 5-and-6 on the year.  Game time tomorrow at Camp Randall Stadium is 2:30.

RICE LAKE FIRE DEPARTMENT CONCERNED OVER CUTS

 Officials with the Rice Lake Fire Department are expressing concern after the city announced it would be cutting a full-time position.  The city council president says a firefighter is retiring but instead of filling that position the city has decided to eliminate it in hopes of not having to lay someone off.  The fire chief is worried that since the department is so small, losing one position will have a huge negative impact.

it’s beginning to look a lotlike Christmas in Chippewa! Get the hot chocolate in the cup holders and rally the famliy for the annual drive through a local wonderland. The Irvine Park Christmas is open for the season.  The display of life-sized Christmas scenes contains over 60-thousand lights and opened last night.  It runs through January 1st.

KEEP THE WREATH GREEN KICKS OFF

The Chippewa Valley Keep the Wreath Green Campaign is underway.  The goal of the campaign is to bring awareness to holiday fires.  A wreath with green lights is hanging outside the Dewey Street fire station and will be up between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  If the Eau Claire, Altoona, or Township Fire Departments respond to a structure fire, one of the lights on the wreath gets switched to red.

EC COUNCIL TO VOTE ON CARBON FEE

The Eau Claire City Council is considering drafting a resolution urging Congress to levy a carbon fee.  The resolution would call on Congress to recognize the evidence of climate change and to adopt a revenue-neutral fee on some fossil fuels.  A public hearing on the resolution will be held Monday, with a vote on Tuesday.

DRYER DISPLACES FAMILIES

Four families are displaced after a reported dryer fire.  The fire broke out Wednesday evening in the 600 block of Dutchman Drive at a four-plex apartment building.  Everyone was out of the building when crews arrived.  There were no reported injuries.

TURKEY TROTTERS HIT RECORD NUMBERS

Eau Claire’s Turkey Trot is a source of fun and inspiration and this year was no exception.  Runners of all ability levels tackled the five mile run, two mile fun run, and two mile walk, along with dog jog at yesterday’s event.  Many reached personal time and fitness goals.  Ten Turkey Trots were held in Wisconsin and brought out a record number of participants at over 30-thousand.
