D.O.C MISTREATMENT INVESTIGATION

Prison officials say they investigated more than 100 complaints of correctional officers and staff sexually abusing or harassing inmates in our state.  Of the allegations reviewed, DOC officials were able to find enough evidence to prove around 15 cases.  Two DOC staff members were disciplined and two more guards were prosecuted for sexual assault.  None of those staff members will work for the DOC.

WARMING UP OUR VETS

Area veterans are getting heating assistance thanks to Project Heat’s On.  Service techs from a Plumbers and Steamfitters union made stops in our area over the weekend, including here in Eau Claire and Menomonie to help provide heat to local veterans.  Volunteers helped service and repair furnaces and visited about 30 homes.

THE BANDS MARCH ON

The Music Along the Chippewa Marching Band show is back in Chippewa Falls.  Twelve high school marching bands from Minnesota and Wisconsin performed at one of the largest shows of its kind in the area.  The event is also an exhibition and competition for current and former marching band participants during their high school years.

MORE FLOOD AID REQUESTED FOR WI

Governor Walker is requesting federal disaster aid for several Wisconsin counties damaged by flooding and severe storms.  The worst of the weather hit the state between mid-August and mid-September.  Walker says that 14 counties need some kind of assistance including Dane, Sauk, Marquette and Fond du Lac counties.

CHIPPEWA FALLS MAN CRACKS OPEN 3rd OWI

A wrong way vehicle leads to a 3rd OWI arrest for a Chippewa Falls man. It happened heading into the weekend Friday evening when a report came in of a vehicle travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes on I-94 near exit 45. Before the responding Trooper could get there, a crash occurred with a westbound vehicle. The struck vehicle was stalled in the lane of traffic and the other vehicle came to rest in the median. FILL UP CREEPS UP

The average price for a gallon of regular gas here in our state is the same as a week ago.  Triple-A says the average price statewide is two-dollars-and-89-cents, while the national average is two-91.  The lowest prices are posted in Appleton, Janesville and Madison at two-83-a-gallon.  Drivers in Superior are paying the most at three-dollars, followed by Eau Clair at two-99.

K9 MAKES DRUG BUST IN EC

An Eau Claire K9 is credited with making an arrest after a man refused to leave his motel room.  The arrest happened earlier this week at Motel Six, when the man jumped behind a bed next to a handgun when officers entered the room.  K9 Jake was sent in after the use of a tactical robot and several rounds from a pepper ball gun were ineffective, and the K9 removed the man from the area.  Officers say they found meth

REDISTRICTING REVISITED

State Assembly leaders are retaining a private attorney to intervene in a redistricting lawsuit.  Court records filed yesterday show that Republican lawmakers made the decision based partially on the potential of Republican Attorney General Brad Schimel losing re-election in November.  The attorney is working outside the Department of Justice, which is seeking to defend current election maps against a challenge by the Fair Elections Project.
