2018 HUNTING SEASON BAGGED SAFETY POINTS

It’s hard to brag about a safe deer season when three hunters got shot, but the state says the latest gun season is the safest on record.  Jon King with the Department of Natural Resources says three hunters were treated for non-fatal gunshot wounds this season, but no one died.  Last year, King says, six hunters were shot and none of them died.  The last time a Wisconsin hunter died in the field was 2015.  DNR doesn’t have a final count of

HUMAN REMAINS FOUND IN MONROE COUNTY

Monroe County Sheriff Scott Perkins is reporting a hunter found skeletal remains in a wooded area near County Highway W near the Township of Clifton.  He says the remains were reported on November 23rd but they haven’t been identified and a cause of death has not been determined.  Other state and local law enforcement agencies are currently working on the case.

DUNN CO MAN PLEADS GUILTY AFTER CHASE BURGLARY

A Dunn County man who was shot by police is pleading guilty to burglary and fleeing from deputies.  Police say 23-year-old Reese Diesterhaft led them on a chase through Dunn and Eau Claire Counties back in August that ended with him stepping out of his vehicle with a weapon.  A deputy shot and wounded Diesterhaft but he survived his injuries.  He will be sentenced on February 12th.

LA CROSSE CENTER COULD SEE A MAKEOVER

A public meeting will take place this week to discuss renovating the arena in La Crosse.  The La Crosse Center was last renovated in 2000 and the board tried to pass an expansion plan this past summer but it was struck down.  Now, the board is considering one of two options that are at or below the project’s original budget of 42-million dollars.  The meeting will be tomorrow 5:30 p.m. and if plans move forward, the expansion is expected to

ALL ABOARRRRRD! THE KROEZE TRAIN CONTINUES

Barron native Chris Kroeze is facing elimination tonight on NBC’s The Voice.  Last night, Kroeze performed Long Train Runnin’ by the Doobie Brothers and his coach Blake Shelton said that he keeps getting better with every performance.  One contestant will be eliminated on tonight’s show and then the final ten will take the stage again next Monday.

WOMAN PLEADS NOT GUILTY IN DEADLY CRASH

An Eau Claire woman charged in a deadly Chippewa County crash is pleading not guilty in court.  Cara Stevens appeared in court yesterday after being charged in August.  Stevens is charged with four counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle, and four counts of reckless driving-causing great bodily harm.  The crash happened in Cornell in May 2017, when Steven says she didn’t see stop signs before colliding with a truck.

STUDENT APPREHENDED AFTER SCHOOL THREAT

A Sparta High School student is in custody after officials say the student made violent threats toward the school over social media.  Officials say the district learned of the threats that included images of weapons early yesterday morning.  District schools were put in a 90-minute classroom hold while authorities found and apprehended the student in question. No one was injured.

EC CITY BUDGET IS LATE

The County Treasurer’s Office needs the City of Eau Claire’s budget to be able to run property tax bills.  The city is late in finalizing its budget, which affects about half the households in the county.  County officials say it makes a bigger impact when the City of Eau Claire is late because it takes the longest to process all the wards individually.

CITY LOOKS TO UNLEASH PLANS FOR A NEW DOG PARK

The city of Eau Claire is looking at plans to UNLEASH another dog park.Officials were able to use the funds from dog tag sales to fully fund the new bark-park on the north side at Robin Road.  The park is an eight acre fenced area for dogs to run around and play and socialize with other dogs.
