CHIPPEWA STEPS UP THE BUCKLE-UP

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office say they’re going to be focusing on seat belt enforcement in the New Year.  A 28 thousand dollar federal grant will pay for extra patrol efforts through September.  Sheriff James Kowalczyk says their goal is to prevent traffic fatalities.  The Sheriff’s Office will team up with other law enforcement agencies as part of the effort.

Governor Scott Walker ordered flags to half-staff on Friday, January 4, 2019, as a mark of respect for former State Senator Walter John Chilsen of Weston. Chilsen, a World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient, passed away on Christmas morning at the age of 95.

HUMAN REMAINS FOUND IN HOME AFTER FIRE

The Langdale County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the discovery of human remains found after a house fire.  First responders answered a call to a reported fire in Elcho yesterday and found the remains after the fire was put out.  An autopsy is scheduled and the cause of the fire is under investigation.  At this time police do not suspect foul play.

MENOMONIE MAN FACING ABUSE CHARGES

A Menomonie man is being charged for alleged abuse of residents at an assisted care facility.  Ramone Bridges is facing two counts of second-degree sexual assault.  The alleged sex acts took place at Serving Hands Care Facility in April.  He’s scheduled for an initial court appearance on Thursday.

90 DAYS BEHIND BARS FOR WOMAN ACCUSED IN AREA THEFTS

A woman accused of stealing from the Eau Claire Walmart will spend 90 days behind bars.  Her and two other Twin City residents reportedly took 47 thousand dollars’ worth of merchandise in 2017.  Their thefts spanned over two separate occasions.  Thirty-one-year-old Lasonya Miles will be on three years of probation after jail time, and must pay over 39 thousand dollars in restitution along with her co-defendants.
