MAN DIES TRYING TO SAVE FAMILY IN RIVER

A man who went missing after trying to save his kids from the Wisconsin River in Sauk County is dead.  The county sheriff’s office says the man’s body was found Sunday morning and the county coroner’s office says he died of accidental drowning.  The man and his wife entered the water Saturday morning when their children started floating too far away.  His wife and three children all survived.

Two Rusk County men are facing child pornography charges.  Dennis Berthold and David Johnson were arrested last Thursday after multiple law enforcement agencies searched their homes.  The two cases are unrelated.

STOLEN CAR AND CHASE LEADS TO ARRESTS

Two people are in custody after leading deputies on a chase going over 100 miles-per-hour in Jackson County.  The sheriff’s office says it got a stolen car report in Black River Falls early Saturday morning.  The driver took off going up to 130 miles-per-hour when deputies tried to stop him.  The car eventually crashed near Kirch and Seils Roads and driver Jeremy Peters and passenger Theresa Hindsley were both arrested.

PADDLE BOAT INJURES ONE ON RUNGE HOLLOW LAKE

One person is hurt after a paddle boat accident in Vernon County.  Reports say Christopher Barnes and Micayla Cecil were on Runge Hollow Lake yesterday afternoon when they capsized in shallow water.  They were able to call rescuers from the Viroqua Fire Department.  Cecil got minor injuries and Barnes wasn’t hurt.

EAU CLAIRE BARN TOTAL LOSS

A barn in Washington Township southeast of Eau Claire is a total loss after a fire.  Reports say the fire broke out on North Road around 2:00 last Saturday afternoon and took about 25 firefighters and seven fire trucks to put out.  No one was hurt and the cause of the fire is unknown.

UPDATE: MISSING WOMAN FOUND SAFE

Police in Eau Claire are asking for help in finding a missing woman.  Officers fear 26-year-old Aubrey Wisniewski may be in danger.  Police started looking for her yesterday afternoon when they say she left her home in Eau Claire but didn’t show-up in Appleton.  Eau Claire Police say Wisniewski suffers from mental illness and had recently made comments about harming herself.  PHOTO CREDIT: WEAU 13 NEWS

LOCAL TROOPS HEADING TO AFGHANISTAN

About 400 Wisconsin National Guardsmen are on their way to Afghanistan.  The guard held a ceremony yesterday to say goodbye to the troops.  They will spend a few weeks in Texas before heading to Afghanistan.   The 1st Battalion, 128th Infantry will provide security for coalition forces in the country.  Commanders say they hope to see the troops return home sometime next year.

KWIK THINKING SAVES SCAM AT KWIK TRIP

Police in Chippewa Falls are crediting a pair of quick thinking Kwik Trip workers with saving a woman from a scam.  Officers say the clerks noticed a woman buying a gift card to send money to someone over the phone.  The clerks called police, who helped the woman realize she was being scammed.  Officer James Luckey says the woman thought she was dealing with someone from the social security office.  He says it’s a common scam, and is warning other

DEFINING DANGEROUS

Wisconsin’s Supreme Court will decide two cases that could help define when someone is truly dangerous.  The court last week announced it will take three cases under review.  Two of the cases, one from Marathon County and the other from Langlade County, deal with the question of when someone can be declared dangerous by the court.  The third case focuses on an insurance case out of Burnett County.  The court declined to review about three dozen other cases from around
