March is Women’s History Month and today is International Women’s Day.  In addition to toasting success, women leaders say there are many hurdles women face in their roles as providers and caregivers.  The Status of Women Data-dot-org says the difference between women’s and men’s median annual earnings in Wisconsin is ten-thousand-dollars.   Women make about 20-cents less on the dollar than men for performing the same job.

SCHOOL LOCK DOWN ENDS PEACEFULLY IN MARSHFIELD

On 3/8/19 at approximately 10:50am officers responded to a domestic disturbance in the 800 blk of E Blodgett St where a female reported having the back window of her vehicle shattered by a male subject with a gun. Officers responded, crisis negotiations took place, and the male surrendered to officers peacefully at 11:25am. Eau Claire Parks & Recreation announces an extended season schedule for warming centers and outdoor ice rinks. PATTERSON PLANNING TO PLEAD GUILTY

The Wisconsin man charged with kidnapping 13-year-old Jayme Closs after brutally murdering her parents reportedly says he will plead guilty.  Jake Patterson sent a letter to a reporter at a Minnesota news station yesterday saying he has “huge amounts” of remorse for his crimes and he plans on pleading guilty to them.  In the letter, he couldn’t say exactly why he kidnapped Jayme, noting that the situation was “complicated” and “not black and white.”  He said it was “mostly on impulse” and

NASH FINCH WINNING-AND ONLY-BIDDER FOR GORDY’S

Nash Finch is the winning bidder to purchase all five Gordy’s Market locations.  The receiver for Gordy’s filed documents in Chippewa County Court yesterday naming the grocery distributor as the winning, and only, bidder at Wednesday’s auction in Milwaukee.  Nash Finch is currently suing Gordy’s for 46 million dollars for failing to pay money company owed them.

WINTER WINNER?

A new project is aimed at making winter easier and happier in Eau Claire.  The Wintermission Eau Claire initiative hopes to eliminate social isolation and increase outdoor physical activity during winter.  The program was created by a Canadian nonprofit and Eau Claire was one of only three cities chosen to participate in the pilot.

EVERS ON VETERANS RESOURCES

Governor Evers wants to make a statewide program that provides mental healthcare to nearly 70 Chippewa County veterans a permanent fixture through his budget proposal.  Legislators and citizens discussed the Veterans Outreach and Recovery Program yesterday which provides vets access to case management, mental healthcare, and substance abuse resources.  The program is nearly a year old and was initially funded by the legislature as a temporary project.

EMPTY BOWLS FILL AREA PANTRY SHELVES

An annual fundraiser is helping to end hunger in the Chippewa Valley.  Feed My People held its Empty Bowls event at Florian Gardens in Eau Claire yesterday.  Those attending could purchase one of a variety of handmade bowls to keep while enjoying soups donated by local restaurants.  Proceeds will go toward programming for the organization.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Today is International Women’s Day.  The theme of the 111th annual celebration is #BalanceforBetter.  Organizers say the theme recognizes the desire of women around the world for balance in their lives and in society.  This year’s initiative is aimed at gender equality, greater awareness of discrimination, and a celebration of women’s achievements.  Events are scheduled in cities around the world, including more than 35 cities across the U.S.

SOOOO….IT’S SNOW EVENT TIME, AGAIN!

City of Eau Claire Streets crews continue clean-up plow and snow haul operations, to aid in their work a new Snow Event has been declared and will go into effect at 12-midnight, 3/8/19 and will end at 5 p.m. on 3/10/19.    The current Snow Event continues to be in effect. Residents can expect that for at least the next two weeks Alternate Side Parking rules will continue to be implemented.  The current alternate side parking ordinance requires a new Snow Event
