The Eau Claire School Board is considering a proposal to match donations of over a million dollars for upgrades to Memorial High School’s athletic facilities.  The board heard the plan yesterday, which could include setting aside capital funds or possibly issuing some debt to cover the funds. The board will vote on the plan at its April 1st meeting.

HOLA! MUY BUENA, CLASE

Eau Claire will soon have a program to teach children in both English and Spanish throughout elementary school.  The Eau Claire Area School District approved the Spanish Dual Immersion Program yesterday.  The program will teach students in both languages in a traditional classroom setting.  The board chose Longfellow Elementary back in December as the site for the pilot program.

BOLTON REFUGE HOUSE TALKS EXPANSION

Bolton Refuge House is planning to construct an apartment complex to better serve its mission.  The organization wants to build a two-story, six-unit complex connected to the current location on South Farwell Street.  Bolton Refuge currently has an 18-room emergency shelter which operates at capacity the majority of the time.

WI DELLS RESORT BATTLING BACTERIA

Christmas Mountain in the Wisconsin Dells is fighting the Legionnaires’ bacteria in some areas of its facility.  Health officials said yesterday that the bacteria was found in parts of the water system at the popular resort.  A spokesperson for the owner of the resort says staff members are working closely with health officials to reduce risks and to fix the issues with the water.  The spokesperson also said all accommodations at the resort now have “point of use” filters which eliminate 99

SHOPKO ANNOUNCES MORE TO GO

Ashwaubenon-based retailer Shopko is closing its remaining 120 department stores, including 35 in Wisconsin.  Some of the closures include Ashwaubenon, Wausau, Green Bay, Oshkosh, Janesville, Appleton and Fond du Lac.  The stores will all close in June.  Several thousand Wisconsin workers will be affected by the closures.

FOXCONN CLAIMS CONSTRUCTION TO START SOON

Foxconn Technology says it will soon begin construction of its Gen-6 manufacturing facility near Racine.  The company announced today that the next phase of construction will begin this summer and the facility will begin production during the fourth quarter of 2020.  The initial Gen-6 facility will manufacture LCD screens.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER DOMESTIC DISPUTE

Just before 10 on Saturday night, the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call from a female advising that she was walking on Hwy 53 by Rice Lake after a domestic with her husband, Steve Anderson.
