PRIDE FLYING HIGH

The installation of 11 Wisconsin sovereign tribal flags was celebrated yesterday on a local campus. Honoring Native Nations at University of Wisconsin-Stout took place yesterday evening at the Student Center. The flags will be displayed in the Overlook Lounge where international flags are located. The tribal flags will be integrated within the international flags to signify the integration of indigenous peoples in society. VETS HAVE MORE TO SMILE ABOUT

A popular event for our area VETS is expanded to give us more to SMILE about. CVTC and its partners will again be supporting area veterans at the  Give Vets a Smile event, which will have many more free services available forveterans a little less than a month from now. WALKER ANNOUNCES DEATH OF HIS FATHER

Governor Walker says his father the Reverend Llewellyn Walker has died.  The Republican announced in a tweet that his father passed away yesterday morning.  The death of Walker’s father comes during a tight re-election campaign against Democrat Tony Evers and after a long history of medical complications.

D.O.C MISTREATMENT INVESTIGATION

Prison officials say they investigated more than 100 complaints of correctional officers and staff sexually abusing or harassing inmates in our state.  Of the allegations reviewed, DOC officials were able to find enough evidence to prove around 15 cases.  Two DOC staff members were disciplined and two more guards were prosecuted for sexual assault.  None of those staff members will work for the DOC.

WARMING UP OUR VETS

Area veterans are getting heating assistance thanks to Project Heat’s On.  Service techs from a Plumbers and Steamfitters union made stops in our area over the weekend, including here in Eau Claire and Menomonie to help provide heat to local veterans.  Volunteers helped service and repair furnaces and visited about 30 homes.

THE BANDS MARCH ON

The Music Along the Chippewa Marching Band show is back in Chippewa Falls.  Twelve high school marching bands from Minnesota and Wisconsin performed at one of the largest shows of its kind in the area.  The event is also an exhibition and competition for current and former marching band participants during their high school years.

MORE FLOOD AID REQUESTED FOR WI

Governor Walker is requesting federal disaster aid for several Wisconsin counties damaged by flooding and severe storms.  The worst of the weather hit the state between mid-August and mid-September.  Walker says that 14 counties need some kind of assistance including Dane, Sauk, Marquette and Fond du Lac counties.
