BACK TO THE RE-DRAWING BOARD: POSSIBLE REZONING OF EC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

The Eau Claire School District is continuing its discussions of possibly rezoning its elementary schools. The school board will continue discussions about making the changes at a meeting today, which would include repurposing Roosevelt Elementary into a 4K school. At the meeting, the board will get an update on previous listening sessions as it draws closer to a decision. If the rezoning is approved, it is expected to cost the district tens of millions of dollars.

VICTIMS OF HIT AND RUN IDENTIFIED

The traffic crash claimed the lives of: Jayna S. Kelley (age 9) of Lake Hallie Autum A. Helgeson (age 10) of Lake Hallie Haylee J. Hickle (age 10) and her mother Sara Jo Schneider (age 32) from the Town of Lafayette. One additional injured girl (age 10) is still hospitalized and is reported to be in stable condition at this time.

SUSPECT WAS HUFFING; FACES MULTIPLE CHARGES

On Saturday November 3, 2018 at 4:33pm Colten R Treu (age 21) of Chippewa Falls turned himself in to Officers from the City of Chippewa Falls Police. The passenger in the truck turned himself in to the City of Eau Claire Police at 3:54pm on the same day. Both subjects gave statements to police which included that they had been intentionally inhaling chemical vapors which is commonly called “Huffing”, just prior to the accident. COMMUNITY CONNECTS AFTER TRAGEDY

Lake Hallie Police say three young girls and one woman are dead after a hit-and-run. One other girl was injured. The girls were Girl Scouts who attended Halmstad Elementary School and Southview Elementary School in Chippewa Falls and were picking up trash on the highway near STH 29. The driver fled, but later surrendered to police and is identified as 21-year-old Colton Treu of Chippewa Falls. Governor Walker and Democrat Tony Evers are doubling down on new policy stances on health care and taxes. Walker said yesterday that Wisconsin will always cover people with pre-existing conditions, despite the state joining a federal lawsuit against the Affordable Care Act. Evers said yesterday that his position on taxes isn’t new, that he’s always been against raising property taxes and will reduce income taxes for the middle class. FAMILY FUN AT THE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

Eau Claire kids are dressing as superheroes even after Halloween. A special superhero party at the Children’s Museum was held yesterday was-according to The Hulk-A SMASH hit! Some of the superheroes attending included Spiderman, the Hulk, Black Widow, and the entire Incredibles family, along with a few super villains. Activities included an obstacle course, lightning laser tag, face painting, andhands-on activities like robotics.

NATIONAL GUARD SECURITY TEAM ON DECK FOR ELECTIONS

The Wisconsin National Guard Cyber Security team will be available if necessary to help secure the upcoming mid-term elections.  Governor Scott Walker issued an executive order allowing the security team to assist the Wisconsin Elections Commission if asked.  The governor says the preservation of democracy through a fair electoral process is a fundamental part of the American system and it’s a founding principle of the constitution that the power to govern resides in the people.

DIABETES AWARENESS MONTH

November is American Diabetes Month and the American Diabetes Association says about eleven-percent of adults in Wisconsin live with the disease.  That includes over 140-thousand who have diabetes, but don’t know it.  About 36-percent of adult Wisconsinites have pre-diabetes.  Over 19-million-dollars was invested by the National Institutes of Health last year in diabetes-related research projects in Wisconsin.
