A change of attitude in Illinois could help keep Wisconsin’s Lake Michigan waters much safer.  Illinois Governor JB Pritzker yesterday said he will support a plan to build an electric barrier in the Illinois River to keep Asian carp out of Lake Michigan.  Illinois’ last governor balked at the idea because it would cost the state nearly 100-million-dollars.  Leaders in most Great Lakes states fear that if the carp make it to Lake Michigan, there’s nothing to stop them from spreading

The road to the Eastern Conference Championship will go through Milwaukee.  The Bucks clinched the East and home court advantage in the playoffs with a win last night in Philadelphia.  Giannis had 45 points as the Bucks beat the 76’s 128-122 last night.

DASSEY MOVED TO OSHKOSH

A high-profile Wisconsin inmate has a new address.  Brendan Dassey is serving a life sentence for the 2005 murder of freelance photographer Teresa Halbach.  Dassey was doing time in the Columbia Correctional Institution, but was moved yesterday to the Oshkosh Correctional Institution.  Columbia is a maximum-security prison, while Oshkosh is medium-security.  *Photo Credit: WEAU 13 NEWS

WI PARENTS SEARCH FOR LIVER DONOR

The parents of a baby boy continue their battle to find a liver donor to save their son’s life.  The five-month-old suffers from a rare life-threatening genetic condition.  WITI-TV says there are just 12 known cases in the world.  A recent donor turned out not to be a perfect match and the baby may only have weeks to live.  The boy’s parents are not matches.

MISSING MISSOURI GIRL

Police in Stanley are asking residents to look out for a missing Missouri girl who may have been spotted there this week.  Police say they have an unconfirmed report that 15-year-old Taylor L’Heureux  [[  Loo-roo  ]]  was seen in Chapman Park on Tuesday.  L’Heureux was last seen in Brookfield, Missouri on March 29th.

WRONG WAY DRIVER STOPPED

The Dunn County sheriff is thanking two men for stopping a wrong-way drunk driver on Highway 29.  The sheriff says a 21-year-old woman was driving drunk on the wrong side of the road near 29 Pines near the Chippewa and Dunn County lines last Friday when two men in a semi truck got her to pull over.  They then took the woman’s keys and called 9-1-1 and she was slumped over in her seat when deputies arrived.  The sheriff’s office

G-E-T GETS GREEN LIGHT FOR THE SPOTLIGHT

Voters in the Galesville, Trempealeau, and Ettrick areas have approved a new performing arts center for the school district.  The referendum passed in Tuesday’s election getting 52 percent of the vote.  The center is expected to cost about ten-million dollars and raise property taxes by seven dollars on property worth 100-thousand dollars.  The district hopes to start construction in the fall or next spring.

NEW SKI JUMP CLOSE TO LANDING

A new ski jump in Eau Claire is nearing completion.  A 100-foot tower is currently going up at Mount Washington for a new 55-meter jump, extending jump distances by about 70 feet.  After the tower is complete the track and side rails will be added.  The jump is planning to open sometime later this year.

PRESSURE IS ON FOR A MEDICAL TOOL AWARD

A medical tool that’s made in Eau Claire is a finalist for the 2019 Ed-Tech medical technology award.  The system is developed by Reality-Works Incorporated and is used to simulate different blood pressures to help nursing students learn how to deal with them.  The winner of the award will be announced later this year.

TAXES SEE BILLION DOLLAR BUMP

Taxes across Wisconsin are going up by nearly a billion dollars.  The state’s Department of Public Instruction yesterday said voters approved 765-million-dollars in school tax questions on Election Day.  DPI says voters rejected another 420-million-dollars in tax increases.  Overall, 75-percent of schools that put a question on the ballot saw it pass.
