Passengers traveling from Wisconsin airports want to keep a close eye on their flight status.  Air Traffic Control staffing issues this morning led to significant delays in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia.  That has had a ripple effect to other destinations around the country.  Some delays have been experienced today at Mitchell Airport and Dane County Regional.

JACK FROST CAMPS OUT IN OUR AREA

Frigid arctic air is moving its way into west central Wisconsin and it’s hear to stay.  Overnight wind chills got into the negative double-digits last night but it’s only expected to get colder.  Next week, colder temperatures should arrive by Tuesday with highs not expected to get above zero and lows below negative 20.  Eau Claire County emergency management says 38 people died during the winter season in the county last year.

EAU CLAIRE WORKING HARD

Eau Claire currently has the fourth-lowest unemployment rate in the state.  Out of Wisconsin’s 32 largest cities, Eau Claire was beat out by only Madison, Fitchburg, and Sun Prairie in December unemployment.  Those three cities had an unemployment rate of one-point-nine percent while Eau Claire was at two-point-two percent.

LACROSSE WOMAN PICKS UP 4TH OWI

A La Crosse woman is in custody after being charged with her fourth OWI.  The Wisconsin State Patrol says 31-year-old Ashley Gingrasso was in a disabled vehicle on Interstate-190 near mile marker ten yesterday when a trooper stopped to check on her.  The trooper says Gingrasso was slurring her speech and smelled of intoxicants and had a child in the car.  In addition to her OWI charge, Gingrasso is also facing drug charges.

ECSD LISTENING SESSIONS

The Eau Claire School District is expected to announce redistricting listening session dates next Monday.  According to the Leader-Telegram, the district is considering re-purposing Roosevelt Elementary into a center for four-year-old kindergarten and redistributing those students to other schools.  Other redistricting proposals are also on the table such as completely redrawing all district boundaries.  No maps have been released of what any redistricting would look like.

LACROSSE ROOM TAX COULD OPEN UP FUNDING FOR NEW PROJECT

The room tax at La Crosse hotels could be going up to fund the new La Crosse Center project.  The entire convention center project is expected to cost about 42-million dollars which is causing Mayor Tim Kabat to consider raising the room tax from eight to 12 percent.  Explore La Crosse says a 50 percent increase is too high because it could drive away tourism and conventions.  If the increase is considered it will have to come by ordinance which

ROUGH SLEDDING DURING MORNING COMMUTE

Authorities say snowy conditions led to over a dozen crashes on Chippewa Valley roads yesterday (THURSDSAY) morning.  Eau Claire police say they responded to nine non-injury crashes.  State troopers went to six weather-related crashes and four runoffs.

WINTER WINNERS

Eau Claire leaders are leading an effort to improve public life and reduce social isolation in winter.  The city was selected as one of three cities in the country to participate in a two-year study called the Wintermission program.  The program is designed to increase levels of physical activity in winter across age, ability, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.  The other two cities selected are Buffalo, New York and Leadville, Colorado.

CARING DURING CHEMO

An area group is donating chemo care kits for women receiving care at the Prevea Cancer Center at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.  The Ladies of the Valley made the donation of 20 kits yesterday.  The kits include items such as lotion, body oil, and fuzzy socks.

Attorney General Josh Kaul says a different approach is needed for the state to withdraw from a lawsuit to overturn the Affordable Care Act. Kaul told Governor Tony Evers today that the Wisconsin DOJ didn’t have the power alone to withdraw from the lawsuit.  He says approval is needed from the Legislature’s Joint Committee On Finance.  The governor has not indicated his next move on the issue, but has been committed to ending the state’s participation in the lawsuit to overturn the
