STUDENT APPREHENDED AFTER SCHOOL THREAT

A Sparta High School student is in custody after officials say the student made violent threats toward the school over social media.  Officials say the district learned of the threats that included images of weapons early yesterday morning.  District schools were put in a 90-minute classroom hold while authorities found and apprehended the student in question. No one was injured.

EC CITY BUDGET IS LATE

The County Treasurer’s Office needs the City of Eau Claire’s budget to be able to run property tax bills.  The city is late in finalizing its budget, which affects about half the households in the county.  County officials say it makes a bigger impact when the City of Eau Claire is late because it takes the longest to process all the wards individually.

CITY LOOKS TO UNLEASH PLANS FOR A NEW DOG PARK

The city of Eau Claire is looking at plans to UNLEASH another dog park.Officials were able to use the funds from dog tag sales to fully fund the new bark-park on the north side at Robin Road.  The park is an eight acre fenced area for dogs to run around and play and socialize with other dogs.

CHEERS OR JEERS AT THE HEAD TABLE?

Outgoing state Attorney General Brad Schimel believes wedding barns should be required to have liquor licenses if patrons are going to consume alcohol.  Schimel argued the issue in a non-bonding opinion written earlier this month.  The conservative Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty said yesterday that Schimel’s analysis is too broad and puts wedding barns at risk of shutting down.

SEATS RETURN TO THE UPRIGHT POSITION

Well, the blizzard warning is over but it wasn’t without first interrupting some plans. The storm has affected some flights in Eau Claire.  One flight departing for Chicago from the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport and one arriving from there were cancelled Sunday, and one flight was cancelled yesterday morning.  The airport was back on schedule for the rest of the day.

MISSING MAN IN DOOR COUNTY

 The Door County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help finding a missing man.  Timothy Wessel is white, 51- years-old, about five-foot-eleven and 185 pounds, with green eyes and brown hair.  He was last seen in Forestville yesterday afternoon around 4:00 when he went out for his daily walk, but did not return.  Wessel was wearing a brown Carhartt jacket, sweatpants and gray Nike shoes with an orange stripe when he left his home.

WWII VETERAN LAID TO REST

A World War Two veteran from Madison is given a proper burial in Monona.  Private First Class Joseph Natvik was killed fighting the Japanese in 1945.  He was only 20-years-old when his plane went missing while carrying supplies to defense forces.  Natvik’s remains were buried yesterday at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona.

Family and friends of a Janesville kindergarten teacher will soon know how she fared on the game show Wheel of Fortune.  Sherry Holcomb appears on the popular program tonight.  Contestants tape the show in advance and are not allowed to reveal their success or failure.  Holcomb’s episode of Wheel of Fortune airs tonight on NBC at 6:30.

EC POLICE RESPOND TO GUN SHOTS

Eau Claire police are identifying two men suspected o being responsible for a shots fired incident.  The police department says officers were called to the eleven-hundred block of Meridian Heights Drive on Sunday night on the report and witnesses claimed they saw a vehicle leaving the scene.  Carnell Blair Junior and Lamont Davis were both arrested after police say they tracked down the car and found a gun in Davis’ pocket and anothe rone under his seat.  They are both

OWI WITH MINOR IN CAR

A Menomonie woman is in custody after police say she was driving while intoxicated with a minor in her car.  The Wisconsin State Patrol says 37-year-old Kristy Decker was arrested after a speeding stop on Highway 29 near the Red Cedar River.  When officers approached the car they say they noticed that the minor that had been driving the car at the time had switched seats with Decker.  She was suspected of showing signs of intoxication and was placed into custody on
