WI GRAD RATES GET BETTER SCORES

Wisconsin high school graduation rates show improvement over the last year.  In a study released today by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, students in the class of 2018 graduated at an overall rate of 89-point-six-percent.  That’s a full point higher from 2016-17.  However there are still troubling issues, including the graduation rate for economically disadvantaged students.  In 2018 that rate was just over 80-percent, compared to a graduation rate over 94-percent for other students.

On February 11, 2019 about 4:25 PM Dunn County Sheriff’s Department came across a motor vehicle that had sustained damage on CTH B north of 730 th ave in the Town of Tainter. A lot of snow has already fallen in northwest Wisconsin and it’s going to continue throughout the day.  According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm warning is in effect as another three to seven inches could fall in the Eau Claire area on top of what’s already on the ground.  Flurries should finally start to taper off around ten o’clock tonight.  The sun should be back out tomorrow but there will be another chance for snow flurries on Thursday. Eau Claire

CHAIRMAN IN CROSS HAIRS OF HUNTING SCANDAL OFFICIALLY RESIGNS

Chippewa County Board Chairman Jared Zwiefelhofer is officially resigning next month.  Multiple board members urged Zwiefelhofer to step down in recent days after he was convicted of three hunting citations in Burnett County.  Yesterday, Zwiefelhofer released a statement apologizing to all the citizens of Chippewa County for his actions.  He plans to officially step down on March 12th.

Travel is not advised after a night of heavy snowfall- and what about those busy crews? Eau Claire snow plow drivers have been working 15 straight 12-hour days to clear roads.  Street Maintenance Manager Steven Thompson says crews haven’t had enough time between snowfalls to haul the snow away.  Removal requires trucks to switch out the plows and the salting and sanding equipment.  Thompson says areas with narrow lanes will be prioritized and hauled away as soon as possible.  Nearly

MKE BUCKS OWNER TO PAY BIG BUCKS IN FINE

A primary owner of the Milwaukee Bucks is being fined 25-thousand dollars for tampering.  The fine stems from Marc Lasry’s comments to The Sporting News after the Bucks’ February 4th victory.  Lasry said he’d seen reports that New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis would sign an extension with the Buck if he were traded there and that it was “a little bit of what we want.”  The open recruitment of other teams’ players is against league policy.

LACROSSE INVESTIGATING RACIAL SLURS

Staff members at Bullet Cab in La Crosse are disturbed after someone painted a racial slur on the company’s garage.  The company’s manager didn’t see the graffiti through the backdoor and doesn’t know exactly when the incident happened, but she was out of the office late Tuesday night through early Wednesday morning.  The slur was directed at Muslims and people from the Middle East and North Africa.

MADISON RESEARCH HELPS BABIES

Some groundbreaking research in Madison is helping babies with heart defects.  Researchers in a lab at the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research are creating three dimensional models of fetal hearts made from ultrasound images.  The models allow doctors to see what a heart with defects will look like and how it will function before babies are born.  The Madison lab is the only place in the world where researchers have successfully pumped fluid through a 3D fetal heart, simulating blood flow.
