WOMAN ACCUSED OF DEFRAUDING FAMILY

A Chippewa Falls woman is accused of defrauding her own mother, aunt, and uncle out of thousands of dollars.  Police say Jennifer Eyerly applied for credit cards in her mom’s name and ran up thousands of dollars in purchases.  They also say she asked for banking information from her aunt and uncle after she promised them jobs at a senior living facility.  She’s accused of stealing thousands of dollars from them and there were no jobs.  Eyerly is facing five

WI SUES EPA

Wisconsin is suing the federal Environmental Protection Agency for trying to roll back climate protections.  Reports say Attorney General Josh Kaul signed a petition with 21 other states yesterday to review the Trump administration’s Affordable Clean Energy plan.  The states involved claim the Affordable Clean Energy rule violates the Clean Air Act.

WI CHILD CARE COST$

Wisconsin is in the top half of the country when it comes to childcare cost.  According to the Economic Policy Institute, Wisconsin is the 20th cheapest state for childcare, but it’s also one of 33 states where raising a child costs more than the average four-year college degree.  The U.S. Department of Human Services considers a state affordable if it costs seven percent or less of a family’s income to have a child.  In Wisconsin, it costs more than 18 percent on average.

WOMAN FACING OTHER CHARGES AFTER STABBING

A woman accused of stabbing and killing her boyfriend in Barron County will be arraigned today.  Turtle Lake police say the woman called them over the weekend and said she stabbed her boyfriend in Almena.  When police arrived they found the man dead the backyard.  The woman is currently being held on probation violation but she could face other charges.

FEMA TOURS BARRON AND POLK AREAS

FEMA teams are in western Wisconsin to see if last month’s storms were bad enough to qualify for federal help.  FEMA wrapped-up its visit to Barron and Polk counties yesterday.  They toured the areas hit hard by the storms and flooding that hit on July 18th, 19th, and 20th.  It’s unclear if there will be enough damage to meet the federal disaster requirements.

There will be a new man in the principal’s office for at least one year at Eau Claire Memorial High School.  The district yesterday named David Oldenberg as the school’s interim principal.  Oldenberg is currently the director of academic services for the Eau Claire district.

WATER TESTING FOR LACROSSE CO.

Folks in La Crosse County can get their well water tested this month.  The county yesterday announced it will collect samples from privately owned wells next Tuesday at the Hazel Brown Leicht Memorial Library in West Salem.  The tests come after a report said over 90-percent of private wells in southwestern Wisconsin were contaminated with fecal matter.

FLYING HIGH ABOVE VOLK FIELD

The skies above Volk Field will be busier than usual for the next week or so.  The Wisconsin National Guard is hosting its second Northern Lights training exercise of the year.  The training gives pilots from the guard, the Air Force, the Navy, and the Marines a chance to all train together.  Folks will see several different types of fighter jets in the skies.  The training will last through next Friday.

TUITION PAYS FOR FREE CAMPUS SPEECH OPTIONS?

A pair of Republican lawmakers in Madison want the University of Wisconsin to get tougher on students who shout-down or try and drown-out competing ideas on campus.  State Senator Chris Kapenga and state Rep. Cody Horlacher yesterday introduced what they’re calling the campus free speech act.  Their plan would have the UW System recognize that all students have a right to free speech.  The lawmakers also want the university to create a policy to punish students who try and interfere with that

WI AMONG STATES FUELING LAWSUITS OVER COAL

Wisconsin is among 22 states suing the Trump Administration over the president’s push to allow states to use coal in their power plants once again.  The states almost all have Democratic attorneys general.  The President this week ordered the EPA to allow individual states to decide their own pollution standards for coal plants.  The order rolls-back an Obama-era clean air regulation.
