ThE Badgers are off to a hot start after blowing out South Florida in the opening game of the football season. Wisconsin didn’t face much resistance during the 49-0 win yesterday in Tampa. The Badger defense dominated the Bulls, forcing three turnovers and returning a fumble for a touchdown. UW hosts Central Michigan next Saturday.

At least 16 volunteers have been deployed by the Wisconsin Red Cross. Some utility crews leave Sunday and will arrive in Florida in about ten days to assist in re-establishing electric service. The hurricane has the potential to be a Category 4 when it makes landfall sometime late Monday or early Tuesday.

Drivers are paying a state-low of two-45-a-gallon in Janesville and Racine.

Byer Nevins is accused of injuring someone during the hit and run while driving intoxicated near the Chippewa River Bridge on August 7th. Nevins was identified after his car was found and the people inside told police he was the one driving. He’s facing ten charges in the case.

Henry Berg was accused of fraudulently obtaining a 650-thousand dollar loan and then defaulting on it back in 2015. Berg claimed he got the loan for his farm but he reportedly subleased the land to a relative, didn’t repay the loan, and sold the collateral and kept the proceeds. He received his sentence yesterday and will report to prison on October 4th.

Read MoreA cold case from 2012 is the first sexual assault case to be closed after the state of Wisconsin started testing old DNA kits. A jury yesterday found Leroy Whittenberger guilty of assaulting a teenager in the town of New London. The DNA kit from the case sat on a shelf until it was tested in 2017. The state has tested about four-thousand old DNA kits from across Wisconsin. Thirty five of those tests have been referred for charges.
