SCAM HITS EAU CLAIRE

An Eau Claire woman says she lost nearly ten thousand dollars to scammers.  She says a caller claimed that her computer was going to be hacked and told her to buy gift cards from several stores to prevent the action.  The woman says she was urged to stay on the phone during the transactions and was asked to read the gift card numbers over the phone, then destroy them.  Officials say requests by phone for payment, especially with gift cards,

UWEC WOMEN’S HOCKEY TEAM AIMS FOR NATIONAL GOAL

The UW-Eau Claire women’s hockey team is going to the NCAA tournament for the second straight season.  The team will face St. Thomas on Saturday in the first game of what they hope will be a journey to the national championship.  The Blugolds made their first appearance in the tournament last year, falling in the second round to Hamline.

DR. BUCKY: UW MADISON LEADS IN DOCTORAL DEGREES

UW-Madison is leading the country in awarding doctoral degrees.  Chancellor Rebecca Blank announced yesterday that the university was ranked first by the National Science Foundation in 2017 with nearly 850 Ph.D’s granted.  The university moved up from second place in 2016.

WI POLITICAL NOTES: EVERS CONNECTS TAX INCREASE DOTS, ALARMS OVER CABINET PICK

Governor Evers is saying that extra University of Wisconsin funding and major Milwaukee-area interstate improvements are unlikely without a tax increase.  Evers made the announcement yesterday while speaking at an event at UW-Milwaukee.  His budget proposal includes a tuition freeze at UW campuses along with 150-million dollars in new funding for the system.  The proposal also seeks 65-million dollars in bonding authority to make interstate improvements in Milwaukee.  To pay for these and other spending choices in the proposal, Evers is asking

A cut in line AT El Patio leads to a stabbing on Water Street. The ECPD updates us on a case from the weekend: On March 3rd at 2:40 am, Officers were on Water St. monitoring the crowd when they were made aware of a stabbing that occurred in the 400 block Water St. An ECPD Officer was immediately able to locate the incident on public space cameras and find the suspect fleeing the area. IN A STATEMENT RELEASED TODAY: The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), at the request of the Eau Claire Sheriff’s Office, has been investigating an officer involved death (OID) that took place just before noon on Saturday, March 2, 2019 on Kempten Road between Augusta and Fairchild in Wisconsin. An Eau Claire County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a report of a suspicious person in the area. The Augusta Police Department responded to assist the deputy.

UW STOUT CHANCELLOR ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

University of Wisconsin-Stout Chancellor Bob Meyer announced today, (Monday, March 4) that he is retiring on Aug. 18 from the institution where he has worked for a total of 32 years. “It is time for me and my wife, Debbie, to enter a new phase in our lives,” Meyer said. “We will miss the students, faculty and staff at UW-Stout who have meant so much to us over the years.” Meyer, 62, became the seventh chancellor at UW-Stout on Aug.

I94 CRASH LEADS TO OWI ARREST

A 36 year old Somerset man was arrested for OWI. Lazeric L Bloodsaw crashed a vehicle just after 4 on Sunday afternoon, March 3rd. A Wisconsin State Trooper was called to investigate a driving complaint and crash at mile post 44 westbound on Interstate 94 in Dunn County.
