JUDGE ROLLS BACK JAIL SENTENCE FOR WAL-MART THEIF

A woman wanted for a string of thefts from western Wisconsin Walmarts will not be going to prison. A St. Croix County judge yesterday sentenced Tempestt Robinson to three years of probation. Authorities say Robinson stole thousands of dollars from Walmart stores in St. Croix County, and she even went as far as Eau Claire during her crime spree. In addition to the probation, Robinson will have to complete 100 hours of community service.

FROM BUNKER TO CELL?

The man who lived in a bunker in the Wisconsin woods for three years is likely heading behind bars. Prosecutors in Portage County yesterday said 44-year-old Jeremiah Button agreed to a plea deal yesterday. Button hid-out in a homemade bunker for years in order to avoid a child pornography charge. A judge will sentence Button later today.

UNEMPLOYMENT WORKS ITS WAY UP

Unemployment in Wisconsin is inching up. The state released its latest jobs report yesterday, and numbers show the unemployment rate for August at three-point-one-percent. That’s a tiny bit higher than the three-percent jobless rate from July. The Department of Workforce Development says Wisconsin added 83-hundred private sector jobs last month.

DEADLY FIRE TRACED TO PORCH

Investigators think a deadly fire at a home for people with cognitive disabilities in Fon du Lac started on the porch. Fire officials in Fond du Lac are investigating a deadly blaze at a living facility shared by people with cognitive disabilities.  Fire broke out yesterday in the 600 block of South Military Road, killing three people.  Two other people escaped.  Three victims were found still in their bedrooms on the second floor and it appears they were not aware

After an ongoing investigation into two burglary cases, 36 year old Jared C. Smith from Menomonie was arrested in the City of Menomonie on September 18, 2019. COUNTY GEARS UP FOR VEHICLE FEE

Dunn County is considering adopting a vehicle registration fee as part of its 2020 Budget. The fee, which has been recommended by the Executive Committee of the County Board, would be $20 per qualifying vehicle registered in the County. Qualifying vehicles would include cars, vans and SUVs that are designated as passenger vehicles, along with trucks under 8,000 pounds, which are registered to an address anywhere within the County. WOMAN REPORTS HERSELF; DIALS IN 2ND OWI

A Cornell woman is facing her second OWI charge after reportedly calling the police on herself.  A police report says officers got a call about a car driving erratically in Elk Mound early Sunday morning.  The report says police got a second call from a woman claiming to be behind the wheel.  The report says an officer pulled over Jane Hickethier and tested her blood-alcohol level at over three times the legal limit.  She’ll return to court in November.

Eau Claire police are investigating a report of a theft at Regis Catholic Schools.  The school notified parents on Wednesday it recently found evidence of financial theft.  Police say they’re investigating the case but they haven’t given any other details.

MILITARY MAKEOVER HAS LOCAL TAKEOVER

A military family from Strum will be featured on an episode of a TV show called Military Makeover.  The Lifetime show gives deserving veterans around the country an updated home to honor them for their service.  Steve and Terri Wojcik and their three daughters will stay at a local campground for ten days starting September 23rd while a crew works on their house.  It’s unclear when the episode will air.
