CHECK OUT ART AT THE LIBRARY

An annual art show in Eau Claire is having a public reception and awards presentation this week.  Arts-West 40 started at the Eau Claire Public Library yesterday where over 220 different works of art were showcased.  So far, judges have whittled the field down to 60 entries and the winners will be announced on Thursday.  The public is invited to attend the awards show.  It’s at the library at seven o’clock Thursday night.

Just when we thought we were done with the worst of winter, it seems Mother Nature is storming back in to remind us who is in charge-and she has more to say. Winter is about to make a comeback in Wisconsin.  The National Weather Service says the northern half of the state will see between six and eight inches of snow on Wednesday.  Most of the state will see something from the winter storm making its way across the Midwest.

MENOMONIE CHASE LEADS TO OWI

Deputies in Dunn County say a Minnesota man is lucky to be alive after a drunken high speed chase hit speeds of 100 miles-per-hour.  It all happened Saturday about noon in Menomonie.  Deputies say 61-year-old Julio Roque stopped to ask a state trooper if he was okay.  When the trooper asked Roque for his ID, police say Roque sped away.  The chase hit 100 miles-per-hour before Roque hit a ditch and crashed his car.  Deputies arrested him for OWI, and

EVERS GEARS UP FOR BIKE TRAILS

Governor Tony Evers wants to use his new budget to expand his power when it comes to bike trails.  The governor’s budget has wheels in motion and includes a provision that allows state and local governments to use eminent domain powers to take land for bike trails.  That, once again, puts the governor at odds with Republican lawmakers who drafted a law last year specifically designed to stop state and local governments from annexing private land for recreational or nature

BIG BUCKS FOR BUCKY

The top brass in the University of Wisconsin system are in-line for some hefty pay raises.  University regents last week approved pay raises of up to 27 percent for top administrators.  Regents also approved a six percent pay bump for all other UW workers over the next two years.  No one is saying what all of the pay increases will cost the school.

FOXCONN FALLS SHORT

Foxconn spent almost 100 million-dollars last year getting its southeast Wisconsin plant ready to go, but a new report says the company didn’t do enough to earn tax breaks from the state.  The WisPolitics blog last week reviewed Foxconn’s latest report to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and says the company fell 82 jobs short of the threshold needed to earn job creation tax credit for last year.  The documents do show a lot of activity though.  Foxconn hired most of its employees in

SHOPKO HAS NEW OWNER IN THE BAG

ShopKo has a new owner, but the company is right now still looking to close its stores.  Two New York investment firms, Monarch Alternative Capital and Raider Hill Advisors, last week paid 67 million-dollars to buy more than 75 ShopKo stores across the county.  Neither firm is saying what it plans to do with the stores or the company’s headquarters in Ashwaubenon.

BUCKS RACKING UP TROPHY SEASON

Milwaukee is having its best season since Ronald Reagan was president.  The Bucks picked-up their 60th win of the season last night, beating Atlanta 115-107.  It’s the first time since 1981 that Milwaukee has won 60 games.  The Bucks could make it 61 regular season wins Wednesday when they host the Pacers.
