WOMAN REPORTS HERSELF; DIALS IN 2ND OWI

A Cornell woman is facing her second OWI charge after reportedly calling the police on herself.  A police report says officers got a call about a car driving erratically in Elk Mound early Sunday morning.  The report says police got a second call from a woman claiming to be behind the wheel.  The report says an officer pulled over Jane Hickethier and tested her blood-alcohol level at over three times the legal limit.  She’ll return to court in November.

Eau Claire police are investigating a report of a theft at Regis Catholic Schools.  The school notified parents on Wednesday it recently found evidence of financial theft.  Police say they’re investigating the case but they haven’t given any other details.

MILITARY MAKEOVER HAS LOCAL TAKEOVER

A military family from Strum will be featured on an episode of a TV show called Military Makeover.  The Lifetime show gives deserving veterans around the country an updated home to honor them for their service.  Steve and Terri Wojcik and their three daughters will stay at a local campground for ten days starting September 23rd while a crew works on their house.  It’s unclear when the episode will air.

FORMER TREASURER WILL STAY IN PRISON

Eau Claire County’s former treasurer will stay in prison for stealing from taxpayers. An appeals court yesterday rejected Larry Lokken’s latest appeal. Lokken wanted the court to overturn his nine-and-a-half-year sentence for stealing more than 625-thousand-dollars. The court did give Lokken a break on paying that money back. The judges said the county court should reconsider their sentence of an extra five years in prison if Lokken cannot repay the money quickly.

FATHER FACES CHARGES IN DEATH OF BABY

A Jackson County dad is facing charges after police say he forgot about his two-month-old daughter in a baby swing. Investigators say the little girl died earlier this month from asphyxiating in that swing. Prosecutors yesterday charged 32-year-old Armas Cravins the Second with second-degree reckless homicide and neglect charges. Police say he was angry with the baby’s mother and in a rush, so he left the little girl in the swing overnight.

WRONG WAY ROUNDABOUT RIDE LEADS TO 6TH OWI

A 54 year old Glenwood City man picked up a 6th OWI. Michael Joseph Frey was arrested just before 10 on Wednesday night for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 6th offense. A WI State Patrol Trooper observed a motorcycle go through the north roundabout of Highway 128 in the wrong direction. W.I.L.L TAKES SHOT AT MENOMONIE GUN CLAUSE

Folks who live in public housing in Menomonie no longer have to give-up their guns. The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty yesterday said it has come to terms with the Housing Authority of the City of Menomonie to end its gun ban. The housing authority had banned anyone living in its apartments from keeping a gun, but WILL challenged the ban as a clear violation of the Second Amendment. BACK TO SCHOOL …ZONES

Most of the people who sped through school zones in Eau Claire this month got a warning. Eau Claire police say they issued 84 warnings during their back to school enforcement drive. Officers arrested eight people, mostly for warrants, and issued 17 tickets. Police Officer Josh Miller says the idea wasn’t to punish drivers, rather to help them realize they need to drive safer.
