DEADLY CRASH IN SAWYER CO.

It was on Friday morning just after 11 when the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a one vehicle traffic crash on STH 40, south of the junction of STH 48 in the Town of Weirgor. PROTESTERS SAY JETS BRING NOISE POLLUTION

Protestors gather at the state capitol to speak out against having F-35 fighter jets stationed at Truax Field.  Around 150 people showed up at the Capitol rotunda in Madison yesterday, saying the noise pollution from the jets would make residential properties near the airfield unlivable.  The Air Force will make it’s decision about whether or not to station a squad of F35’s’ in Madison early next year, but the activists are asking local political leaders to reject the plan.

FL MAN ARRESTED FOR WI SHOOTINGS

Stevens Point police say a Florida man is in custody and facing multiple charges including attempted homicide.  Authorities say Christian Martinez shot a man multiple times yesterday morning at the former Comfort Inn hotel.  Martinez and the victim were staying there while working on construction at the building.  The victim is hospitalized in stable condition.

GAS PRICES IN WI BELOW AVERAGE

The cost for regular gas in Wisconsin is 18-cents-a-gallon lower than the national average.  Triple-A says the price statewide is two-dollars-and-40-cents today, while it’s two-58 across the country.  The lowest prices of two-40 and below are found in eastern Wisconsin from Outagamie and Brown counties south to Racine and Kenosha.  The highest price is posted in northwestern Washburn County at two-65 for regular gas.

NEW PLAN WOULD BRING RETIRED TEACHERS BACK TO SCHOOL

The latest plan to end Wisconsin’s teacher shortage is to allow retired teachers to return to the classroom while still collecting their pensions. Right now, there are caps on what teachers can make while they draw a pension. The plan at the statehouse in Madison would eliminate those caps.

HEMP HERE TO STAY

Wisconsin’s hemp program is no longer on a trial basis. Governor Tony Evers on Tuesday signed a new law that makes the program permanent. Most of the changes in the law mirror the federal rules on hemp. Farmers across the state hope hemp will be another option for them and their fields.

HUNTERS HAVE LAST WEEKEND IN CROSS-HAIRS

A lot of deer hunters in Wisconsin are hoping for better luck this weekend. This is the last weekend for gun deer season in the state. Last week’s opening weekend was a bit of a disappointment. Deer numbers were down 27-percent, and hunters bagged just over 90-thousand deer last weekend.
