As Wisconsin’s coronavirus count closes-in on 600 confirmed cases, public health managers say more than 10-thousand people have been confirmed as not sick. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday confirmed that 585 people in the state are sick with the virus. Seven people have died from it. But thousands more have been tested and cleared. Some nursing students in Wisconsin could soon find themselves working on the frontline of the coronavirus outbreak. The head of the state’s Board of Nursing is suggesting that Governor Evers waive some training requirements to get more nurses into the field. Board of Nursing director Peter Kallio says the state is in an ‘all hands on deck situation.’ The proposal would wave the final 25-percent of training hours for student nurses. Add the Wisconsin Capitol to the list of places closed because of the coronavirus. The state’s Department of Administration yesterday ordered the statehouse closed to visitors until further notice. DANE CO. SEES FIRST CORONAVIRUS DEATH

Dane County is reporting its first coronavirus related death.  The Public Health Department announced today the patient was in their late 70s but no other information was released.  Officials say the statewide death total from COVID-19 is now seven. DATCAP RESPONDS TO PRICE GOUGING COMPANIES

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says it has contacted over a dozen companies in Wisconsin regarding price gouging complaints.  The agency said today cease and desist letters were sent to companies including Walmart, Walgreens and Menards.  The agency says it’s received dozens of complaints across the state.  The most popular overpriced items include toilet paper, bleach, household cleaners, surgical masks, milk and water.

ECPD PROTECTS OFFICERS

The Eau Claire Police Department is trying to protect officers from the spread of COVID-19. The department says they’ve issued personal protection equipment for all officers to wear on calls. Chief Matt Rockus says the department is looking at ways for less in-person contact so officers can avoid the potential of getting coronavirus and continue to protect the community.
