The dragons are coming to La Crosse. The city is getting ready for this weekend’s Big Blue Dragon Boat Festival. The festival brings teams of racers to the Black River to compete for a good cause. The race helps raise awareness for breast cancer research. The races start about 7 a.m. Saturday morning, and will run till about 4 p.m. that afternoon.

Eighty-two-year-old Raymond Vannieuwenhoven [[ van-you-when-hoven ]] is scheduled to enter a plea July 1st for the murders of David Schuldes and Ellen Matheys in McClintock Park in 1976. DNA samples from evidence at the crime scene was tested last year and determined to be from the Vannieuwenhoven family. He was ordered today to stand trial, but that date has not been set.

A criminal complaint claims David Markham punched the boy after he texted his mom and said he hadn’t eaten all day and was hungry earlier this year. Markham is charged with felony child abuse.
