Some green in the form of money helps a local University to GO green. University of Wisconsin-Stout has received $27,067 in Focus on Energy incentives through the design assistance program for work on a residence hall. North Hall underwent a $21.74 million renovation, funded with student fees, that includes all new student rooms, bathrooms, common areas, entries and infrastructure. Built in 1967, the building has expanded 14,000 feet to about 90,000 square feet. It reopened in September with 374 students

BUCKY GOES BIG TIME

Wisconsin Badgers center Tyler Biadasz is entering the NFL Draft.  Biadasz announced his decision on social media today thanking Wisconsin for great memories and letting him fulfill his lifelong dream of being a Badger.  He is this year’s Rimington Trophy winner which recognizes the most outstanding center in the country.  Biadasz is the first Badger to win the award.

EC NORTH STUDENTS PLACED ON HOLD DURING CANINE SEARCH

Canine Search at North High School took place today. We do know that it was a search for illegal drugs with school administrators and local law enforcement. During this time, all students were placed on hold in their classroom. The search usually takes about 45 minutes.

EC MAN FACING FELONIES AFTER WEEKEND ARGUMENT

A man is accused of committing several felonies including hit and run in Eau Claire County.  A criminal complaint claims a woman told police Thomas Buchholz got into a violent argument with her at an apartment complex in Altoona over the weekend.  Buchholz is accused driving drunk and running into a neighbor with his car while trying to get away.  Buchholz was charged Monday and released on 25-hundred dollars bond.

EC MAN SENTENCED TO FEDERAL PRISON TIME

An Eau Claire man will spend time in federal prison after being convicted of illegally having a gun.  Eau Claire police say they arrested Lamont Davis last July when he was found with a gun during a reported family violence incident.  Davis was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm and sentenced Tuesday to 30 months in federal prison.

BALLOTS SET FOR EC ELECTIONS

The ballots are set for city council and county board elections in Eau Claire County.  Eau Claire City Council President Terry Weld will run uncontested.  There will be at least one new city council member after Laura Benjamin stepped down and one at-large election.  There are also over 40 people running for county board.  The election is on April 7th.

LA CROSSE SERVICE CALLS BUMP UP

The La Crosse Police Department saw an increase in service calls in 2019.  Reports say La Crosse officers responded to almost 63-thousand calls last year, over one-thousand more than in 2018.  The police department says the top calls were about kids and parties, suspicious activity, and welfare checks.

FROM THE BIG “D” TO “I DO”…AGAIN

The period of time between getting a divorce and remarrying in Wisconsin could be eliminated.  Reports say the Committee on Family and Law approved a bill that would eliminate the waiting period by a six-to-three vote Tuesday night.  Currently Wisconsin residents must wait six months after getting a divorce to remarry.
