The Dunn County Emergency Notification System, CodeRED, will be tested on March 10, 2020 at approximately 5:30 p.m. to validate telephone numbers in the Dunn County Emergency Management’s database. WI SEX OFFENDER NUMBERS RANK HIGH

Wisconsin is in the top half of the country for the number of sex offenders.  According to a study by Safe-Home that uses U.S. Census Bureau and FBI data, Wisconsin has the tenth-most sex offenders overall and the sixth-most sex offenders per 100-thousand people.  Safe-Home says these numbers likely mean more sex crimes are being reported in Wisconsin.

CHIPPEWA CO. LOOKS TO ADD NEW POSITION

Chippewa County is considering adding a new position to help people with dementia.  The executive committee voted Tuesday to add a dementia care specialist position that would partner with Dunn County.  That person would provide resources to families that have members with dementia.  The position will now be considered by the county board.

MORE TRIAL DATES SET FOR TREU

The man who is looking at a life sentence for killing three Lake Hallie Girl Scouts will go on trial for drugs later this spring. A judge in Rusk County set a trial date for Colten Treu on a series of drug charges for the end of May. True is looking at almost 170 years in prison for running down three Girl Scouts and one of their moms back in 2018. He will be sentenced in that case next week.

JURY AGAIN CONVICTS FATHER OF KILLING SON

A western Wisconsin man is once again looking at prison time after being convicted of killing his son. A jury yesterday convicted Kayle Fleischauer of killing his 18-year-old son. Police say Fleischauer was drunk back in April of 2018 when he shot his son in the head. A jury convicted Fleischauer of the same crime last June, but a judge ordered a new trial because of juror misconduct.

LITTLE DAMAGE AFTER DORM FIRE

Firefighters in Eau Claire are not saying what caught fire at a UW Eau Claire dorm yesterday. The fire department rolled out to the Karlgaard Towers Hall yesterday morning. Crews say folks in the dorm were able to put out the flames before they arrived. Students were forced out of their dorm rooms for about an hour and a half. UW Eau Claire says the fire did little to no damage to the dorm.

DETAILS EMERGE FROM MILWAUKEE

There may be something to the claims that the accused shooter at Molson Coors’ brewery was racially harassed. A company spokesman yesterday said they found a noose in Anthony Ferrill’s locker back in 2015. The spokesman said the company never found the person who put it there, but said that kind of behavior is unacceptable. PEN TO PAPER: GOV. EVERS SIGNS OVER 60 NEW LAWS

Wisconsin’s newest laws cover everything from elections to bestiality. Governor Tony Evers yesterday signed over 60 new laws. The most headline grabbing law is a new ban on bestiality. In addition to reaffirming that sex with animals is wrong, the new law requires anyone convicted of it to register as a sex offender. WATCH OUT FOR LOW FLYING PLANES

The state of Wisconsin is ready to deal with gypsy moths this summer. The state’s Department of Agriculture yesterday said they will present their gypsy moth action plan starting March 15th. The plan calls for the state to spray forests across Wisconsin from May through July to try and keep the moths from destroying trees and woodlands. The state says the moths are a serious threat to trees and forests across Wisconsin.
