Former governor Scott Walker says his son may run for Congress.  Walker told WISN-TV yesterday that a number of people have asked 25-year-old Matt Walker to think about running to replace Republican Representative Jim Sensenbrenner, who announced this week that he’s retiring at the end of his term.  Matt Walker has never run for a political office before.

WI DEMOCRATS PUSH FOR A.G. AUTHORITY

Wisconsin Democratic lawmakers are pushing a bill that would restore some authority to Attorney General Josh Kaul.  Kaul currently has to seek approval from the Republican-controlled Joint Finance Committee to settle certain lawsuits.  Reports say the bill aims to give Kaul the ability to resolve lawsuits without seeking approval from the committee.  Democrats say this is needed for Kaul to conduct business for the Department of Justice.

CONSTRUCTION AND LANE REDUCTIONS COMING TO HWY 12

Lane reductions are coming to the Highway 12 bridge over the Wisconsin River in Sauk City next week.  The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says 12 will be down to one lane between Water Street and Highway 78 for maintenance starting Monday.  The work will last through the fall, be suspended in the winter, then pick back up in the spring.  It’s scheduled to be completed in May.

WHEELIES LEAD TO CRASH, HOSPITAL, AND ARREST FOR EAU CLAIRE MAN

Just before 6 Monday (September 2nd) evening the Lake Hallie Police received a complaint about a motorcycle travelling northbound on Business 53 riding “wheelies”. DetectiveAdam Meyers spotted the motorcycle as it turned off Business 53 and followed it to the Walmart parking lot. The officer activated his emergency lights and after briefly stopping, the motorcyclist fled the parking lot onto Commercial Blvd. The officer pursued the motorcycle onto CTH-OO as it headed eastbound. LOCAL SCHOOL SELECTED FOR MINDFULNESS TRAINING

After a competitive application process, the School District of Bloomer has been selected to receive mindfulness training during the 2019-2020 academic year. Thirty staff will receive training through Mental Health Matters. Mindfulness is paying attention to the here and now. MAN CHARGED IN KIDNAPPING HOMELESS WOMAN

A Minnesota man is accused of kidnapping a woman and bringing her to Jackson County.  A criminal complaint claims Dwayne Doxen picked up the woman at a homeless shelter in Minneapolis last  month and promised her work.  She says she pled with Doxen to take her back to the shelter but he insisted on taking he to Atlanta or Miami because she wanted to be an actress.  Doxen was arrested after the woman got him to pull over at a

MAN FORMALLY CHARGED IN STABBING

An Eau Claire man is formally charged in connection with a stabbing.  A criminal complaint says Michael Alexander stabbed a man three times after a fight on 1st Avenue on Labor Day morning.  Alexander was initially charged with attempted murder but was charged yesterday with first-degree reckless endangering safety.  He’s facing over 17 years in prison.

GRANT TO HELP STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH

The Lake Holcombe School District is offering a new way for kids to receive mental health counseling.  The district recently received 60-thousand dollars from Wisconsin’s mental health grant to introduce virtual counseling.  In partnership with Prevea Health, students will be able to tune into a monitor and talk to a health professional in a private setting so families have better access to help.  This will be the first district in the state to use the program.

WI WARNS AGAINST VAPING; SOME PLACES OUTLAW

Madison and Dane County’s health department is the latest in Wisconsin to tell people not to vape.  Health department director Janel Heinrich yesterday said people need to stop vaping, immediately.  Heinrich says it doesn’t matter if people are vaping nicotine or marijuana, she says there’s no safe level of vaping.   Wisconsin health managers say 34 people in the state have been hospitalized after vaping.
