ALTOONA LOOKING FOR SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

The Altoona School Board is officially looking for a new superintendent of schools after the arrest of the current head administrator.  Last week, Dan Peggs was arrested on charges of sex trafficking and child pornography.  Thursday, the school board named Ron Walsh the interim superintendent.  Peggs is not officially on administrative leave yet, but is using vacation days while he remains in federal custody, according to the school board.

COMMUNITY RALLIES AFTER SHOOTING

Police are releasing the identity of the Milwaukee brewery shooter who killed five people this week.  Investigators say 51-year-old Anthony Ferrill was an employee at Molson Coors Brewing Company.  The victims range in age from 33 to 57-years-old.  All of those who were killed were coworkers to Ferrill.                      As we continue to get details, local, state and federal lawmakers expressed their condolences and offered prayers for the victims of yesterday’s

DUNN CO. DRUG BUST

Three people are facing several charges after a large drug bust in Dunn County.  According to reports, Ashley Speicher of Chippewa Falls, Travis Hanson of Eau Claire, and Jermaine Stapleton of Minnesota were arrested this week.  During the raid, police seized meth, heroin, and cocaine.  The three were running an operation between Dunn County and the Twin Cities.

WI COUNTY IS 4TH TO BE 2ND AMENDMENT SANCTUARY

Monroe County is now a Second Amendment sanctuary.  The county board approved a resolution earlier this week opposing any unconstitutional changes to the right to bear arms.  Monroe is now the fourth county in the state to declare itself a Second Amendment sanctuary.  Board members say the local community and county sheriff’s office played big roles in the resolution.

GAME IS A SLAM DUNK

Memorial High School in Eau Claire is looking to end the “R-word” for good.  On a special night of high school hoops at the Eagle’s Nest, the North and Memorial Special Olympics basketball teams took center stage at half time of the school’s varsity game.  The two teams squared off in an exhibition game in front of a packed house.  The event was centered around promoting a positive school culture and inclusive youth leadership.

FLAGS LOWERED; VIGIL PLANNED

Flags are flying at half-staff across the state as a somber reminder of the Molson Coors shooting.  Governor Tony Evers ordered flags lowered today and they will also be lowered on the dates of the victim’s funerals.  The gunman identified as Anthony Ferrill of Milwaukee worked at Molson Coors.  He killed five people who were all employees before taking his own life yesterday. WI POLLS SHOWS BERNIE LEADING

The latest Marquette University Law School poll shows Bernie Sanders with nearly 30-percent support among likely Wisconsin Democratic Primary voters.  This is the first Marquette poll in which Sanders has held the top spot for the Democrats.  In January, Sanders only registered 19-percent support in Wisconsin, which favored Joe Biden at that time with 23-percent.  Today’s poll has Mike Bloomberg behind Sanders with 17-percent support followed by Joe Biden with 15-percent.

Eau Claire police are warning people to watch out for fake money.  Police say they recently found fake 20 dollar bills with replica written in the bottom right and upper left corners.  Police say they have a suspect in the case but it’s unclear if they’ve been arrested.

WIC NUMBERS FALL IN WI

Participation in Wisconsin’s Women, Infants, and Children supplemental food program is down.  According to the U.S. Food and Nutrition Service, the number of people participating in the WIC  program went down by 17 percent from 2015 to 2019.  Health officials in Chippewa County say one reason for the decline is Wisconsin’s falling birth rate.
