RUSK CO. BUSINESS A LOSS AFTER FIRE

Firefighters in Ladysmith say a local concrete plant is a total loss after a fire on New Year’s Eve. It took crews from several fire departments in Rusk County about an hour to put out the flames at the Haas Redi-Mix plant on Highway 27. No one is saying what started the fire. No one was hurt.

EC FIREFIGHTERS HIT HOLIDAY HIGH NOTE

Eau Claire’s firefighters are doing a little celebrating of their own. The fire department says they didn’t have a single structure fire during the entire holiday season. Deputy Chief Allyn Bertrang says it’s a stat they should be proud of. Eau Claire’s fire department tracks fires with lights on a wreath outside the main firehouse. This year, firefighters didn’t have to add a single red bulb to that green wreath.

ROSE BOWL GETS THORNY FOR WI

Wisconsin’s four turnovers turned the game against them in the Rose Bowl. The Badgers lost to Oregon yesterday, 28-27, despite dominating most of the game. Oregon turned three of those Wisconsin turnovers into three touchdowns, including one late in the fourth quarter.

WI ROLLS OUT WARNING FOR ILLINOIS MARIJUANA

Racine County’s sheriff has a warning for people who buy legal marijuana in Illinois and bring it into Wisconsin: Don’t. Sheriff Christopher Schmaling yesterday said he will arrest people who bring drugs into his county. Illinois begins recreational marijuana sales today. Schmalling says what may be legal in Illinois is still illegal in Wisconsin.

COUPLE FACING DRUG CHARGES

An Eau Claire couple is facing drug charges after a cocaine bust.  Police say Tamara Howlett and Terrell Wilson were recently found with over 85 grams of cocaine worth about 86-hundred-dollars in their car.  Howlett and Wilson are also accused of selling cocaine out of their home.  They’re both facing multiple charges including possession with intent to sell cocaine.

POLICE LOOKING FOR TIPS IN RECENT THEFTS

Eau Claire police are looking for someone who’s stolen catalytic converters from cars in Eau Claire.  Police say there have been three recent thefts, two in the Menards parking lot on North Clairemont Avenue and one at Calvary Baptist Church.  Police say a blue pickup truck was seen in the area during the thefts.

FLU HITS HARD

The flu is spreading in west-central Wisconsin.  According to the Centers for Disease Control, there have been about 20 cases of the flu in Eau Claire over the last ten days.  HSHS Sacred Heart says three of those cases sent victims to the hospital.

Triple-A says it takes between one to two hours for the body to process just one alcoholic drink.  That means many people are feeling some long lasting effects from their New Year’s Eve celebration.  Experts say hangover symptoms like dizziness, headache or mental fogginess are all reasons not to get behind the wheel.

SNOW REMOVAL ENDS IN DEADLY ACCIDENT

An accident in Taylor County turns deadly. On December 31st a little after 1 o’clock in the afternoons, the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a two vehicle accident with injuries in the town of Roosevelt. Taylor County Deputies, Gilman Fire Department and Gilman Ambulance were dispatched to the scene.
